This is a short and sad film about a Portuguese immigrant who discovers he's slowly going blind. Of course this is all quite sad, but the film manages to do much more than just depress you. It manages to say something because it was well written and tries to go beyond the recent trend in many independent shorts to just superficially make you sad. Instead, it cleverly manages to give you a sense of how out of place and lost this man is in such a new culture. It also draws an exceptional parallel between the man's illness and his own son's fear of the dark when he goes to bed each night.
Very well made and worth seeing.
