Henry Cavill on Immortals, Superman and setting his sights on James Bond

10 November 2011 10:02 AM, PST | The Geek Files | See recent The Geek Files news »

Seven years ago, Christopher Nolan considered Henry Cavill for the title role in the Batman reboot before deciding he was too young, while Twilight author Stephanie Meyer wanted him to play vampire Edward, but he was considered too old.

On top of that, he was almost cast as the new James Bond, losing out to Daniel Craig, and was set to star in a Superman film directed by McG before the project was cancelled.

But finally Cavill is on the cusp of global fame. Immortals hits the big screen tomorrow (November 11), and he was given a second chance at Superman with Zack Snyder's reboot Man of Steel, which he's shooting now for release in June 2013.

Cavill was announced earlier this year as the next man to don the red cape - and the first non-American to do so. He's well aware of the privilege and the pressure.

Summit to Release Amanda Seyfried’s Gone on February 24, 2012; Henry Cavill and Bruce Willis’ Cold Light Of Day Set for April 6, 2012

5 May 2011 3:01 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Summit Entertainment has set release dates for two of its upcoming projects. First up, Heitor Dhalia's thriller Gone is now slated to hit theaters on February 24, 2012. Starring Amanda Seyfried, Jennifer Carpenter, and Sebastian Stan, the film focuses on a young woman (Seyfried) who suspects her missing sister has been abducted by the same serial killer who kidnapped her only two years prior. As the story so often goes, no one believes Seyfried's suspicions (which I'm assuming turn out to be right on the money) and she is forced to save her sister all by her lonesome. THR also reports that the studio has set April 6, 2012 as the release date for its similarly kidnapped-based thriller Cold Light of Day. Starring Henry Cavill and Bruce Willis, Mabrouk El Mechri's (Jcvd) film centers on a man (Cavill) whose family is abducted while vacationing in Spain. As he puts the pieces of their disappearance together, »

Henry Cavill & Zack Snyder talk ‘Superman’

17 February 2011 12:00 PM, PST | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

The latest issue of Entertainment Weekly has hit newsstands across the Us. In it there’s a piece on upcoming superhero movies – including Zack Snyder’s Superman, which stars Henry Cavill as the titular hero. Cavill also appears on the cover of EW in somewhat of a Superman-ish garb…

Among the topics of discussion: Cavill’s audition, which included shooting a screen test wearing a replica of Christopher Reeve’s once impressive, now dated Superman suit. “If you can put on that suit and pull it off,” says Snyder, ‘that’s an awesome achievement.” Cavill was feeling less than super in the moment, at least about his ability to fill out the costume: He had just finished shooting a film with Bruce Willis called The Cold Light Of Day, and the part required to him to shed the impressive abs of steel and muscle tone he had put on »

The latest issue of EW takes a look at the heavy-duty upcoming superhero movies of 2011, along with a cover story on how “Tudors” star Henry Cavill became the new Superman. Here’s an excerpt: Among the topics of discussion: Cavill’s audition, which included shooting a screen test wearing a replica of Christopher Reeve’s once impressive, now dated Superman suit. “If you can put on that suit and pull it off,” says Snyder, ‘that’s an awesome achievement.” Cavill was feeling less than super in the moment, at least about his ability to fill out the costume: He had just finished shooting a film with Bruce Willis called The Cold Light Of Day, and the part required to him to shed the impressive abs of steel and muscle tone he had put on for the movie he made right before that, the forthcoming mythic fantasy Immortals. Cavill, Snyder Talk Rebooting "Superman"

17 February 2011 8:53 AM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

The upcoming issue of Entertainment Weekly has a feature article on Henry Cavill's casting as the new Superman and briefly goes into his audition process for the role.

Seems Cavill wore a replica of Christopher Reeve's dated outfit from the earlier movies. Cavill had gotten muscular for "Immortals" but had to shed the body for the thriller "The Cold Light Of Day". Right after that film was shot, the screen test came up.

Cavill recalls: “All I could think was: Oh, god. They’re going to look at me and go ‘He’s not Superman. Not a chance.’ The actor inside me was going: You’re not ready! You’re not ready!”

Snyder says “He walked out, and no one laughed. Other actors put that suit on, and it’s a joke, even if they’re great actors. Henry put it on, and he exuded this kind of »

[First Look] Henry Cavill as Zack Snyder’s ‘Superman: The Man of Steel’

17 February 2011 7:27 AM, PST | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

Production on Zack Snyder‘s Superman: The Man of Steel hasn’t even started yet and there have already been (likely bogus) rumors of troubles. As “godfather” of the film, Christopher Nolan is likely wrapped up with The Dark Knight Rises, so I can’t see him assisting Snyder in any big way from here on out. With Henry Cavill the only confirmed cast member as Supes himself, Entertainment Weekly has him on the cover of their magazine. While it obviously is no still from the film, we can see Cavill donning the famous S on his chest and I think he has the right look for Clark Kent. The article also points out the title of the film is still unconfirmed, but I’ll stick with The Man of Steel until we get a new one. Cavill also shared a story about the screentesting for the film, in »

Henry Cavill Cast As Superman

30 January 2011 11:01 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

The search for Zack Snyder's Superman is now over. Unfortunately, fan favorite Jon Hamm did not land the role, instead it went to Henry Cavill, a relatively unknown actor. Cavill has had roles in Stardust, The Tudors, and he auditioned for Christopher Nolan’s Batman. He's also add some experience with Superman before as he was close to landing the role in Superman Returns. Cavill will be in a few upcoming films as well, including The Cold Light Of Day and Immortals, so hopefully moviegoers will become more familiar with him in the near future. »
