I always look forward to both the BAFTA television and film awards, but the film awards are definitely my favourite ceremony, especially if I have seen the films nominated, so I can hope certain ones win. Hosted by Jonathan Ross, with voice overs by Claudia Winkleman, 2009 saw some great films nominated and winning the famous golden mask award, in all the categories: Best Film, Best British Film, Best Leading Actor, Best Leading Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Original Screenplay, Best Music, Best Animated Film, the Fellowship award, Outstanding British Contribution To Cinema, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Editing, Best Film not in the English Language, Best Makeup & Hair, Best Production Design, Best Rising Star, Best Sound, Best Visual Effects, Best Short Film and Best Short Animation. Films nominated and winning in this year included: Burn After Reading, Changeling, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, The Dark Knight, Doubt, The Duchess, Frost/Nixon, Hunger, In Bruges, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, I've Loved You So Long, Iron Man, Mamma Mia!, Man on Wire, Milk, Persepolis, Quantum of Solace, The Reader, Revolutionary Road, Slumdog Millionaire, Son of Rambow, Tropic Thunder, Vicky Cristina Barcelona, WALL-E, Wallace and Gromit in A Matter of Loaf and Death, Waltz with Bashir and The Wrestler. It also included a tribute to all the filmmakers and stars who had passed away in the last year, including Cyd Charisse, Patrick McGoohan, Anthony Minghella, Richard Widmark and Paul Newman. Stars seen at the ceremony, and nominated or winning, included Amy Adams, Gemma Arterton, Danny Boyle, Jeff Bridges, Noel Clarke, Marion Cotillard, Daniel Craig, Penélope Cruz, David Fincher, Sir David Frost, Terry Gilliam, Goldie Hawn, Jason Isaacs, Mick Jagger, Angelina Jolie, Shia LaBeouf, Matthew Macfadyen, James McAvoy, Sir Ian McKellen, Steve McQueen, Kylie Minogue, Emily Mortimer, Thandie Newton, Nick Park, Dev Patel, Brad Pitt, Jonathan Pryce, Mickey Rourke, Kristin Scott Thomas, Michael Sheen, Christian Slater, Sir Patrick Stewart, Sharon Stone, Meryl Streep, Marisa Tomei, Emma Watson and Kate Winslet. Very good!
