Best episode in a long string of so-so's

Clever, twisting plot and extremely funny at times. Jake Weber is given a larger stretch than usual and plays it beautifully deadpan at critical moments (I was expecting him to break the fourth wall with a wink in his eye). Jeffrey Tambor - always worth watching - comes close to stealing the episode - is a great sparring partner at these moments and presages his "Transparent" role.

A gentle, entertaining episode

There was a certain amount of suspense here - would Joe fail completely and reject Jeffrey Tambor's character? But no, he recognised Allison's core spirit and the world got better from then on. I have to say that I had an initial negative reaction to Jeffrey Tambor's character, but (like Joe?!) warmed to him as the episode progressed - I suspect that the writers were aiming for exactly that! I would have like to have seen Jeffrey Tambor's character attending the the school theatrics, so as to see the fulfilment of his work in creating the pea-pod costume, but it was not to be.

I have just watched the DVD extra "Curious Maria", and the talent so obvious there just bursts out. I wish a bright future to Feodor Lark, whatever path he follows. That talent will stay with him and support him wherever he goes.

Great episode

I always know I'll be entertained when I see Jeffrey Tambor's name in the cast of a movie, etc. He never disappoints and he didn't disappoint this time. Such a welcome change from hearing and watching Alison's temper tantrums in every episode. This episode was so fresh and delightful, not even Ariel got on my nerves. Honestly, if a child of mine spoke to me the way she speaks to her parents, well, that's for another time. It was nice to see the Marie character finally maturing. She did a good job. Brigitte is always cute. This episode was light and fun. Jeffrey Tambor as Todd Emory and Allison's spirit is worth the watch. Good fun.

Finally

The old formula is back after a string of failures trying to be something this show is not. No gruesome torture or murder of young women. No poverty stricken DuBois family. The question is will they stick with this formula or something like it for the rest of the season into the future.

Quirky. Definitely quirky. Jeffrey Tambor was perfect for this role and it probably wasn't a difficult role for him, but that doesn't make it any less well done. The story was great.
