Simon Pegg is the only original Ice Age cast member to reprise his role.
This is the first "Ice Age" film or short in which Scrat doesn't make an appearance. Similarly, it's the first film not to feature the involvement of "Ice Age" creator, original director and Scrat voice actor Chris Wedge. The former instance was due to Disney losing the rights to the character in 2020 after a longtime legal battle with designer Ivy Supersonic. The legal rights were subsequently resolved, as a series revolving around the character, titled Ice Age: Scrat Tales (2022), was announced soon after.
Due to Blue Sky Studios shutting down in early 2021, the film was animated by Bardel Entertainment.
This will be the first Disney+ animated film to be based on a Blue Sky Studios franchise.
The project was originally intended as a Disney+ series before being changed into a feature film for the same platform.
