It's been a busy year for Vgp Effects & Design. Shop head Vincent Guastini tells us you'll be seeing some of his work in this Friday's release Transylmania (pictured). In addition to that horror-comedy, Guastini recently wrapped Joe Dante's Splatter , Steve Miller's Scream of the Banshee , an After Dark Films original production starring Lauren Holly and Lance Henriksen. "We just got a nod on some other Miller projects, but can't say at this point what they are," says Guastini. "We're also set to do Robert Masciantonio's next film - whose recent film, Neighbor has critics and audiences screaming in bloody, shocking, delight." Vincent is gearing up for his next film Haunted saying, "We intend on doing for ghosts, what we did for gore »

The next for director Nick Palumbo has an already impressive lineup of talent scheduled for this incredible sounding story of children lost in a land of horror. The Dp will be none other then Laurent Barès who shot not only Inside, but also Frontier(s) and the upcoming film La Meute among many others. Vincent J. Guastini, who's done makeup and special effects on such films as Requiem for a Dream and the upcoming Neighbor, will be designing and creating all the F/X for corpse. And the young Bella Thorne (has anyone seen any of her films?) will be starring. I was already sold with the storyline but the Dp clinched the deal.

Embodiment Of Evil Directed by Jose Mojica Marins *** 1/2 José Mojica Marins' demonically anticipated Zé do Caixão (Coffin Joe) comeback film is everything you could hope for. Embodiment cleverly explains Zé 's absence over the years by opening with the character being released from prison after serving decades of time for the crimes depicted in earlier films! Coffin Joe may now be in his 70s, but Zé's lifelong obsession to locate the perfect woman to continue his bloodline with has not faded in the slightest. Too schlocky, violent, corny, and shocking for Cannes, the 40 year long wait had audiences at Fantasia in a collective applause. Guaranteed to satisfy its fan base with stunning cinematography, special effects, and an assortment of clips from the earlier two movies; José Mojica Marins now 72 years old still commands the screen and with Coffin Joe he has crafted a true horror icon. Hopefully with the release of this film, »
- During the world premiere of writer/director Robert A. Masciantonio's Neighbor at Fantasia, more than a few attendees squirmed in their seats more than a few times, especially at a particular scene involving a swizzle stick and a certain member of the male anatomy that doesn't stand a chance of making it past the MPAA's film ratings board. All this is to say that while Neighbor as presented at the festival was a blissfully blood-drenched film, don't expect the same version when it actually gets released wide - which it most definitely deserves to be. Playboy covergirl America Olivo (the Friday the 13th remake) stars as 'The Girl', a ruthless killer who enters unsuspecting people's homes and savagely tortures and murders them, all while helping herself to the comforts of their suburban abodes. The focus of the story is on one particular instance in which she invades the »
While we wait for the schedule for Fantasia 2009 to be finalized, we did receive a couple of press release announcing the fest's line-up, and per usual, those of you who are planning to attend are in for one helluva genre extravaganza.
First up is a bit of news about the fest's extended schedule: Due to a veritable deluge of feature presentations, Fantasia is extending its 13th edition for two extra days and will therefore be taking place from July 9th to the 29th at Concordia University’s Hall Theatre. As North America’s largest genre film festival, Fantasia will once again make good on its promise to deliver diversity, innovation, entertainment, food for thought and a good dose of eccentric and biting humour.
Next is a message from Fantasia's Co-Director of International Programming, Mitch Davis, highlighting some of this year’s spotlights:

- The Woman In Black
A decade after his well-received venture into the vampire genre, Cold Hearts, writer/director Robert A. Masciantonio is back with a decidedly more hardcore horror outing, Neighbor. The filmmaker sent along some exclusive and nasty photos (see ’em below) and info on the film, which will have its premiere at this summer’s Fantasia Film Festival in Montreal.
“Neighbor was shot in only 18 days in January and February of this year in cold Philadelphia and its suburbs,” Masciantonio tells Fango. “We had so much fun making this film, and having it debut at Fantasia is an absolute thrill. It’s going to be amazing seeing the finished product with the core audience! I hope they love our Girl as much as I do.”
