Thule's former battle-master and tutor to Valiant, Lorn, arrives at Caaelot and is offered a job as strategist. But during a mission led by Gawain, the troops suffer and Gawain writes that Lorn's instruction was to blame. When Valiant arrives, Gawain explains the situation tactlessly, causing Valiant to defend his friend even after he can tell by the next battle that Lorn's errors are real and costly.
