New trailer for baseball drama Spaceman starring Josh Duhamel

22 July 2016 8:00 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Spaceman released a teaser last month that focused on baseball legend Bill ‘Spaceman’ Lee’s most distinctive characteristic: his extensive drug use [watch it here]. Orion Pictures has now released a full trailer which highlights the journey Bill ‘Spaceman’ Lee took, along with an array of interesting animated visuals. Check it out here…

From the executive producer of ‘Bull Durham’ and ‘White Men Can’t Jump’ comes Spaceman, the mostly-true story of former all-star Mlb pitcher Bill ‘Spaceman’ Lee. In the twilight of a long career as one of baseball’s all-time great eccentrics, Lee (Josh Duhamel) is cut from the Montreal Expos in 1982. Though Lee finds himself blackballed by the rest of the league for his outspoken politics (his views being “somewhere to left of Che Guevara”) and notoriously enthusiastic drug use, he refuses to quit the game. As of 2016, he still hasn’t.

Spaceman is written and directed by Brett Rapkin, »

Scott Cooper Western Hostiles Adds Interstellar Star Timothee Chalamet

21 July 2016 12:52 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Hostiles, the Western drama that’s coming by way of Black Mass director Scott Cooper, has recruited Timothee Chalamet of Interstellar fame.

The Hollywood Reporter has the scoop, confirming that Chalamet now joins a cast that boasts Christian Bale – reuniting with Cooper after Out of the Furnance – Rosamund PikeJesse Plemons and Adam Beach, who will soon be rubbing shoulders with the remainder of Task Force X in next month’s Suicide Squad.

Chalamet, meanwhile, will assume the role of Private Philippe DeJardin, a member of the military stationed at an outpost in New Mexico. From what we understand, Scott Cooper’s period Western chronicles the story of an Army captain (Christian Bale) who escorts a Cheyenne chief through war-torn territory, utterly ignoring common sense and the very near and present danger.

Penned by Cooper himself along with the late, great Donald Stewart, Hostiles is a story of a decorated »

Real-Life Escobar Trying To Get Involved In Netflix's 'Narcos'!

6 July 2016 8:42 AM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

Whenever you're making a film or TV show based on a real-life criminal mastermind, you have to realize that you're potentially walking into a lion's den. If the crime lord, or his kin, are still alive, you have to deal with the very real possibility that they may have something to say or do about the depiction you're creating of them. Such is now the case for the makers of the Netflix series Narcos.

While notorious drug lord Pablo Escobar is dead, his brother Roberto is still very much alive and it would appear he'd like to poke his nose around and take a sniff of what Netflix is working on for season two of Narcos.

Variety is reporting that Escobar has sent a "formal, friendly request" to the makers of the show, and what he wants is to review season two before Narcos hits Netflix on September 2nd.

Sundance London: Other People review

Sundance London 2016: Other People review: A superb, darkly comic, emotional film notable for its excellence in writing, direction and performances. Other People review

Other People review by Paul Heath, June 2016.

Other People revolves around a New York based, though Sacramento native comedy writer who moves back to his family home one winter to look after his sick mother. As it is revealed in the film’s highly dramatic, though darkly comic opening sees, she is dying of cancer, and the film charts the lead up to her eventual death of the disease (not a spoiler).

The film is a character driven piece, led by the wonderfully gifted Jesse Plemons, the actor who cared himself out quite a nice television career with the likes of Friday Night Lights, and then Breaking Bad, before moving into features with supporting, though strong turns in the likes of Black Mass, The Program and Bridge Of Spies. »

3 Ways Johnny Depp Can Save His Career

31 May 2016 2:40 PM, PDT | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

It.s been a pretty bad week for Johnny Depp. While there.s been some accusations made against the actor that we won.t go into here, yet another one of his films has opened to a tepid box office response, which highlights just how far his star status has fallen.  Johnny Depp now hasn.t led a box-office barnstormer since 2011.s Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. Since then, The Rum Diary, Dark Shadows, The Lone Ranger, Transcendence, Mortdecai, Black Mass and now Alice Through The Looking Glass have either been a flop, performed poorly or have been critically savaged. While it.s hugely disappointing to see Johnny Depp struggling so badly to create films that resonate with a mainstream audience, he.s still undeniably talented. Johnny Depp just needs to make some slight adjustments to get back on track. Thankfully for the three time Oscar nominee, I »

Can Johnny Depp’s Reputation Recover From Abuse Accusations?

31 May 2016 11:57 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

For almost thirty years, Johnny Depp has thrived as one of our most beloved and popular box office stars. But just as his latest feature, Walt Disney’s “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” was being released worldwide last week, allegations of domestic abuse were put forth by his estranged wife, Amber Heard, raising questions about his career and reputation going forward. (The allegations came just days after Heard filed for divorce — and asked for spousal support — following a 15-month marriage.)

Depp was performing in Lisbon with his band Hollywood Vampires when Heard made her allegations. In his absence, his attorney, Laura Wasser, said in a court declaration that “Amber is attempting to secure a premature financial resolution by alleging abuse.”

A swarm of media converged on Los Angeles Superior Court on May 27 to cover the proceedings, in which a judge granted Heard a temporary restraining order that requires Depp to stay 100 yards away. »

Box Office: ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ Tops With $80 Million, ‘Through the Looking Glass’ Bombs

30 May 2016 8:07 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

X-Men: Apocalypse” easily topped the Memorial Day weekend box office, racking up a commanding $80 million over the four-day period in an otherwise forgettable holiday for the movie business.

Its victory came at the expense of  “Alice Through the Looking Glass,” which is shaping up to be one of the year’s biggest bombs. The follow-up to 2010’s “Alice in Wonderland” eked out $34.2 million over the four-day holiday, a far cry from the $116.1 million debut of the first film, and a disastrous start for a pricey movie.

Final numbers are still being tallied, but even though this year’s Memorial Day topped last year’s holiday, it trails the record of $314.2 million established in 2013. That weekend saw a clash between “Fast & Furious 6” and “The Hangover III,” and while this edition also fielded a high-profile matchup between “X-Men” and “Alice in Wonderland” sequels, overall ticket sales were somewhat disappointing. Johnny Depp: Anatomy of a Fallen Movie Star

29 May 2016 10:59 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

In a 2005 episode of “Entourage” a super-agent played by Malcolm McDowell tells Jeremy Piven’s Ari Gold that his eight-year-old daughter knew that Johnny Depp was going to be a star when she watched “Platoon.”

“You showed her ‘Platoon’ when she was eight years old?” the hyper-caffinated Gold asks incredulously.

The joke may be about bad parenting, but the reality is that Depp was marked for stardom by Hollywood almost from the time he first turned heads in the Vietnam drama. After a brief detour into teen heartthrob-dom with the TV show “21 Jump Street,” Depp began justifying that initial enthusiasm, amassing well received turns in the likes of “Ed Wood” and “Edward Scissorhands.”

The movie industry was so convinced that the actor possessed that rare alchemy of talent and charisma that marks a true star, that it stuck by Depp for over a decade until he found his box office footing. »

What Happens Without a Prenup? Divorce Lawyers Weigh In on Johnny Depp and Amber Heard's 15-Month Marriage

26 May 2016 5:35 PM, PDT | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

How much money could Amber Heard get in her divorce from Johnny Depp? Heard filed a divorce petition on Monday, citing irreconcilable differences and demanding spousal support. Depp asked a judge to refuse Heard's demand, according to documents obtained by People. The couple didn't have a prenup, according to TMZ. Legal experts say that since the marriage only lasted 15 months, Heard would have a hard time winning a hefty sum from Depp in court, but it may be worth it for the ultra-wealthy actor to pay up in order to avoid a lengthy, public divorce.
