What is this trash?
shoetomos19 August 2009
This show is awful, crude, and downright Nasty. I can't believe that they would even air this crap, it's not entertaining all. The jokes are not funny, the look of show in general is really bad and to top it all off there is a laugh track. A freaking laugh track! I knew from trailers they ran that it would be bad but the laugh track just took it all to another level. The writing its self makes no sense. There was also a scene they showed in the trailer that let me know for sure how crude this was, the Dad was digging in some kids mouth and his whole hand went through the kids mouth including the chair he was sitting in. It's bad enough that Nick is suffering with the crap they show during the day and now this? Ugh please end this. This show is just begging to be canceled, I won't be surprised if it doesn't make it past the first season.

This show is sick!!!!
jasonisu418 August 2009
Warning: Spoilers
I watched an episode of this show on Nick and it was the most disgusting piece of garbage that I have ever seen on Nick. I can't believe that Nick would even show something like this. I don't even know where to start. The clay animation that is used for this show looks gross and it almost looks like that mess of a show Robot Chicken that Cartoon Network likes to air. Aside from that the content in this program is just awful. In an episode I saw a guy get stabbed in the eye with a knife and they showed blood spurting out of his eye. Then they show a guy get gasoline poured on him and he burns alive. Then a tiger swallows half his body while the other half is shown hanging out of the tiger's mouth. I also saw a boy stick his head in the butt of an elephant. Yes an elephant. While this goes on a crowd watches and they start to throw up. Vommit is clearly shown coming out of about 5 or 6 peoples mouthes. And while all of that was going on they even had the presence of mind to play a laugh track like something was supposed to be funny. None of it is funny, it's just sick. And it's on Nick. I would expect something like this to be shown on Adult Swim or something. The person who allowed this to be shown on Nick needs to be slapped. Nick has really gone downhill in the last couple of years but they have hit an all time low by showing this sick, pathetic excuse of a show!

Even the canned laughter stopped laughing
alisterblack223 December 2009
Warning: Spoilers
This was embarrassing. This show makes you feel embarrassed for everybody who made it. And, yet, at the same time you feel angry at them. Every joke is forced and unfunny, every line is a failed punchline, every sight-gag is explained and analyzed until it's even less funny that when it started. The on-going joke is that the dog has a large rectal opening, and for some reason everybody who sees the dog has to stare and tell people about it. Dogs have ass-holes is the point they're trying to make. And this is funny...? When first aired, every line was followed by canned laughter. Not an exaggeration. Every line, every sight-gag, every brisk movement was followed by laughter. The insight that's trying to be given is always ridiculous and every joke is so forced and predictable it's hard to watch. It's made in a style that is nauseating to watch: choppy and chock-full of unnecessary movements to remind you they can make the dollies move. The worst is the hands; every sentence is accompanied with jazz hands because they made movable fingers and they're clearly proud of it. I have watched one episode experimentally and felt sick and angry. I watched another because my friend didn't believe how bad it was. Both were unbearable, and even the commercials are enough to make you want to punch the writers and creators in the face and remind them they aren't clever, they aren't giving a satirical look at society, they are playing with child's toys and writing with childish immaturity. I will be very happy when I stop seeing any previews so I can assume the network came to their senses and canceled it. It's sad, Catherine O'Hara used to be funny.

Absolute CRAP!
moviefreak90724 August 2009
Warning: Spoilers
This is, bar none, the worse show I've EVER seen! Absolutely horrible animation, clay and poofy and disgusting. The so-called humor is pitiful, crude and shameless. Physically disturbing feats are done by the ugly characters. Like when the father reaches his hand in the kids throat and it goes all the way through his body! Or when the dog's huge butt sticks to the window! It made me want to vomit! The ridiculous laugh track at the non-funny jokes just adds a whole new layer of stupidity to this mess. As if the show isn't bad enough without hearing 'heh-heh-ha-ha' every few seconds. I mean come on! It's so bad you need a cue to know when to laugh! The show's not even mildly humorous like The Simpsons or other shows that are on the crude side. This is just one example of why I turn to Nick @ Nite less and less: They take the good, wholesome shows and replace them with garbage and overplayed reruns.

PLEASE do not waste your time with this crappy nonsense!

Good for adults and teens with a sense of humour
hideme66631 July 2010
It's an edgy show. Check out the Amish episode -- absolutely brilliant! Why are there so many hostile reviews? The reviews mostly seem to come from viewers of a channel called NICK (is that a kids channel?).

This show has unique, high quality and appealing animation. They certainly don't skimp on the animators.

The few episodes I've seen have been quite interesting and have had good production values. The plots may be bit over the top but there aren't many animated shows out there that can capture my attention (most of them are quite bland and have been gutted to meet PG13 censor requirements).

Check it out and ignore the NICK viewers (was there maybe a concerted effort to malign the show?). It's worth your while (especially the Amish episode)! This is a show that could very easily grow to rival the Simpsons when they peaked.

Interesting Animation Occasional Funny Moments and Mid Writing
wildlilhorse19 December 2023
I have recently been introduced to Glen Martin DDS as I was watching a video of channel surfing 2009. I searched the show up on Google and found that the first season was officially on YouTube with the second season being on Tubi. After watching the first season, I have to say that it's underrated. For one I enjoy the animation style and I think it's rather intriguing and new compared to the traditional ways of animation. The writing is simple but also somewhat sophisticated at the same time. The jokes are alright but can be a bit to reliant on crude/potty humor, however there are some clever political, social, cultural references throughout the program. That being said there are some scenes in this show that wouldn't fly in today's climate, most notably a scene where one of the main characters calls a transgender women a "he/she" a term that is quite offensive and insulting to members of the LGBTQ community, there's also quite a bit of homophobic jokes in it so yeah.

On content side of things, this was aired on NICK@NIGHT, a programing block on nickelodeon aimed at teens and young adults. Though there was some controversy with it originally airing at 7:30pm especially with it being aired right after SpongeBob despite containing crude and suggestive humor, sexual situations, course language (damn, ass, piss) and somewhat graphic violence. The show is rated TV:PG DLSV, however I would say that this program is more so TV:14 due to both the overt and frequent sexual references and the violence that can be quite gruesome at times.

Overall a decent program with some issues.

Heavy on crudeness and light on laughter.
entertainmentsplosion14 July 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of the most awful animated shows I have ever seen. Not just on Nick, I mean anywhere. This show is a lot worse than all of the daytime shows Nick airs, and considering how idiotic Fanboy and Chumchum is, Glenn Martin is a turd wiped on Nick's spare airtime.

Now let's talk about the show. Glenn Martin is not only crude with its overload of toilet and sex humor, but it's just plain weird. For example, in the first episode, it was devoted to an endless butt joke: The audience couldn't go a bare MINUTE without looking at a dog's anus. Subtle indeed. Not only do they flash this butt joke endlessly in the first episode, but I can't watch a single episode of Glenn Martin without staring bull's-eye at the inside of a canine's butt. The main reason for this is that in the second edition of the theme (Same song but no lyrics and explains the backstory a little more) there is always a half a second of the dog flashing its anus at the screen. Is that the best Nick can come up with for humor?

Along with the dog flashing its derrière, the rest of the characters are completely flat and stupid. And what's with the laugh tracks? I know it's natural to add laugh tracks in a sitcom so to provide the illusion of a studio audience, but what's the point of laugh tracks IN A CARTOON? It just doesn't work.

Anyway, this show is the equivalent of the anus of the Martin's dog. It stinks, it's ugly, and it is feared by all viewers. Avoid this show at all costs.

A sleeper hit.
samadams196914 January 2010
This show is really funny, and next to 30 Rock, is one of the few TV shows I actually look forward to seeing ever week. It's such a weird fit for Nick at Nite! I think that's why a lot of regular Nick at Nite viewers post such nasty comments about the show -- it's not aimed at them. And the people who WILL like it haven't discovered it yet. Hopefully, they will. It really belongs on Fox or Comedy Central.

My kids enjoy this show, but there's also another layer of comedy which goes over their heads, and entertains adults. Lots of political humor, bashing the left and right, sly references to obscure TV episodes, and some sex jokes. Glenn just might turn out to be a closet homosexual!

Looking back at this show
Piker641 May 2022
I watched this when I was a kid even though my mom never let me.

Its a claymation show for adults It was kinda popular back then

The jokes hit good even today Like in the first episode Glenn calls a group of people gentlemen and there's a woman there that looks like a guy And later he does it again

Looking at this now it's not the best but I think it holds up

Give it a watch if you have the time 😉

Started bad, but got better
austinp1219 September 2009
A couple of the first few episodes were disgusting and unfunny. Now that they have taking out the laugh track, it is good. It is not all potty humor and is good animation for the first season of a nick at nite show! The humor has been smarter, and the plots are better. The Korea episode was hilarious. Watch it before you judge it, or learn how to expand your sense of humor.

And it is not directed at kids. Its on prime time at nick at nite on Monday and has a TVPG rating for infrequent language, suggestive dialogue and occasionally moderate violence. It is directed at teens.

I would have given it a 4/10 when I first saw its first 3 episodes, now I would give it a 8/10

reviews for the wrong reasons - or just the right ones?
sadbadmac10 August 2019
Eric Fogel, the writer of the cult classic Celebrity Deathmatch on MTV, is a claymation god. The show is about a dad that is trying to bring his family closer together. And what better way than to buy an RV and travel the country? The show is filled with puns that are so dumb that you can't help yourself but laugh. The show proves that delivery is an important part of jokes, as too many shows have failed at trying to convey puns as funny jokes. The voice acting is great for a show with less than 500 iMDB votes... And this is probably what struck me the most: for a show that is so unpopular (for the wrong reasons; or may be just the right ones?) it is a real gem. I've enjoyed this more than the last 3-5 Seasons of Family Guy, which is a staple show on TV.

Now for the reasons for the bad reviews: The majority of negative reviews stems from what are most likely parents. This show apparently aired on Nick Nite, a program intended for teens. As such, I think the show explores a great deal of teen themes, however, it does have some gore and perverse themes. It reminds me of South Park at some places, especially since it also has a very unique animation style, albeit they have varying degrees of vulgarity (South Park being more vulgar). If you let your teen watch The Simpsons, then this show shouldn't be a problem either. However, the claymation does enable a more graphic display of violence than is seen in The Simpsons.

Funnily enough, the bad reviews attracted me even more to the show. What's better than parents getting upset over a show? Watching that exact show. Whereas South Park is a love/hate deal, Glenn Martin DDS is hard not too like. This show, and its writer Eric Fogel, deserves way more credit. It was just recently uploaded to YouTube on it's own channel. I sincerely hope that adultswim, given their track record and recent claymation gem "The Shivering Truth", will pick up this show and revive it. I have yet to see the second season, but I can already tell that this show is a hidden gem.

Terrible, TERRIBLE.
EvelPlatypus19 August 2009
I like Kevin Nealon as an actor, I think he's a decent one, but even someone like him can't save the atrocity to television. The show is about the Martin family, an obnoxious family of annoying, tech-savy disgusting-looking clay figures. The father, Glenn Martin (Kevin Nealon), a dentist, decides to tear them away from their materialistic needs in an attempt to make a stronger family, puts them in an RV and takes away their cell phones, gaming consoles, etc. Now, the plot sounds pretty good, I'll admit it HAD potential, but this was advertised as a comedy, but the laughs are missing. The character's personalities are annoying (and they look ugly). The animation is exceptionally bad (Good example: "Moral Orel") and the writing is poor. The jokes are terrible and immature. Honestly, I feel as if I've wasted my time. This attempt at comedy...I haven't seen such a terrible attempt at comedy since Disaster Movie (Yes, I went there). Please, Nick at Nite, go back to running re-runs of 80-90's sitcoms. Do what you do best, and replace Glenn Martin, DDS with a show like...Alf? Actually, I can't picture Alf on N@N, so forget that...

Compare to Crapzone or whatever this is a better show to air on Nick & NN
tommypezmaster28 August 2009
well this show is about a family (& Someone's friend) and for some reason they fail at getting anything CLASSIC! The animation is pretty good. The voice acting is great! It is pretty funny! I like that one episode when they go to an Amish country & a girl flashed her ears. If you like really funny shows watch THIS!this show better than those other crappy shows on Nick or Nicktoons Network (Chalkzone & The Mighty B!)

pros:

great voice acting, cool animation, never gets old, makes laugh your you know what off cons A family member dose something stupid in a funny way you should watch this show! it is very funny

First of all, this show rocks. And no, im not a "rabid fan", but um some of these reviews are just idiotic. Where do people get these ideas? Glenn Martin is supposed to be funny. He has far more humor than 90% of the shows out there. AND STOP ASKING NETWORKS TO BRING BACK SCAREDY SQUIRREL! THAT SHOW IS FREAKING STUPID!

What was Nick thinking?!
Ace_Of_Flames19 August 2009
Warning: Spoilers
Hey, does your idea of funny involve crude, disgusting jokes with weird animation and an annoying laugh track? Then this show is for you! Where to begin...well, first off, the animation is fairly bad. And by that I mean the entire show looks bad. Every character has this odd look to them, kinda like what you see in shows like Robot Chicken. That along with everything else is not realistic, and at the same time not exactly cartoonish. Somewhere in the middle. Nonetheless, I assure you that you're going to want to throw up because even looking at this show will make you sick because of the gross and unappealing style it has. Seriously, that image of the dogs butt is still stuck in my head, I'm scarred for life. Glenn and his family aren't exactly God's gift from above either. As far as realism in their movements and all....well, their made of clay and it's a stop motion animated cartoon. I never really cared for that kind of stuff.

ANIMATION: Sucks

Wow, with all these hideous looking people you would think the humor would be able to make up for it. Well, that's absolutely wrong because nearly every joke is repulsive. And when it's not, it's just unfunny. I mean come on, a guy preaching about living life to it's fullest then dying is slightly amusing, but not really original. A kid shoving his head up an elephants butt? Now that's just too much. Glenn Martin DDS completely misses the mark in terms of being funny. Oh, by the way, the laugh track makes me want to bang my head against the wall. So annoying. What makes it worse is that it's like it's trying to tell people when to laugh: as if the creators themselves knew that the show was going to be bad and that everyone needed to be pushed to get even a chuckle out of them.

HUMOR: Horrible

Overall, this show just blows. A few things in it might make you giggle once in a while, but never does it feel fresh or likable in any way. In fact, Glenn Martin DDS at times feels almost unwatchable. If the promos didn't turn you off to ever watching it, thirty minutes of it will make you regret ever doing it in the first place.

OVERALL: 2/10

I love this show!
r_ananias31 January 2014
This is awesome! So good writing and really funny jokes/situation. Also, the Brazilian voices are 50 times better than the original voices! This is a show I really look forward to watching the next episode. I only had that feeling with the early The Simpson seasons.

I really like the whole travelling around the country situation. My God I love Courtney, Wendy and Connor! Jackie is pretty great too. Well, Glenn is just Glenn, LoL.

It's a shame that TBS Brazil channel only shows it in the early morning but I tape it every single day. Really hope this show gets better reviews.

Just watch it, you will have a great time laughing at the Martins.

Pure Garbage
mulberrygal6 September 2009
I cannot believe the same network that shows Spongebob, Dora, reruns of Andy Griffith and Bill Cosby would show something like this garbage. It isn't funny, and it isn't appropriate at the time slot it is scheduled to be shown at. Have mercy and put this show out of his misery before it drags Kik down any lower. I watched because I believed the hype that it was going to be one hilarious, belly laugh. The only thing my belly did was turn, followed by my hand turning channels. Come on Nik, if I want to watch garbage I would head to the local dump and watch it being ground up, which is what you should do to this sorry excuse of a time slot filler. Nik you you are above this junk!

Trash
RNMorton19 August 2009
Terrible, terrible trash. If the episode I just saw speaks for the series everyone connected should be ashamed of themselves, a very unfunny "send up" (I guess) of the Amish. By the way, where did the responsibility of television networks go? Nick is showing this at 8 with clearly inappropriate material for kids carrying right over from the 7:30 show. Like when ABC "Family" shows Cruel Intentions in its prime time slot. This one is not just in-appropriate, its in-funny, it reminds me of a poorly written Back to the Barnyard episode with a really bad laugh track. It really doesn't deserve ten lines of comments except thats what IMDb insists on now. I can't think of a TV show I've seen recently (except for Back to the Barnyard) that rivals this one in non-entertainment.

Very Funny, NOT for kids!
micandnic99-11 September 2009
This show is very funny. There are many previous comments that this is one show that should not have a future, especially on nick. I'll agree that this show has NO business airing prior to 11pm, especially on either of the two nick channels. It actually has a regular time slot on 'TheN' network at 11pm on Mondays but I have seen it at other times on the other two networks. Message to everyone with negative comments - Stop being so stiff lipped and loosen up. It is just a simple show with simple plots and very funny delivery. The actors (or voices, at least) do a great job and I hope this show continues. I'm very surprised to read that even a Robot Chicken fan doesn't approve of this show. Now I really can't believe that. Robot Chicken is very, very 'Adult'only or 'Crude', yet it has a huge following and great success on Cartoon network, as well as on DVD. This show isn't as bad as your average episode of that series. I hope that there are some IMDb users that see this series for just what it is, funny, NOT for kids, and just 22 minutes of fun. Besides, since when does a 'Nick at Nite' lineup have a big following from kids? Let's run through some of the past and present shows on the network: Taxi, Who's the Boss, The Nanny, George Lopez, Cheers, Three's Company, Roseanne!!! All both inappropriate and misunderstood by kids. Have I made my point? Do I need to continue? Bottom line, JUST DON'T WATCH GLENN MARTIN DDS IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH IT!!! There are only about 400 other channels to watch at any given moment.

Terrible, awful, no good show
starlett201020 August 2009
Warning: Spoilers
So, I caught a couple of commercials for this show and had hopes. I am a fan of Robot Chicken and other Adult Swim shows and I was excited to see that Nick at Nite was offering the same type of humor on their channel. Wow, was I wrong. Glen Martin, D.D.S is a horrid show. It literally gave me a headache. First, the story line is boring and I think can be found in a little movie called National Lampoon's Vacation. Except the "twist" here is that the father is dentist. The show tries extremely hard to copy the growing trend of gross, bizarre, sexual and otherwise adult humor and fails miserably. The jokes are so bad that a laugh track is added in to alert the audience that they should be laughing. But there's nothing funny about the crap on this show. The dentist shoves his hand down a child's mouth to retrieve his bitten off finger only to have his hand exit out of the child's anus. The show is appearance fixated on anuses because there is a running gag in which the dog's large, extruding anus is featured. Disgusting. As I said before, I am a fan of "gross" humor, but only when it is intelligently, satirically and tastefully done, which Glenn Martin, D.D.S is not. This show tries desperately to be funny, is horribly executed, and is just kind of creepy. If you're looking for a new Robot Chicken, Family Guy or South Park kind of show, forget it. Glenn Martin, D.D.S has none of the charm, wit or satire of the other shows. If you want a show that features disgusting and offensive material that caters to lewd morons without a brain in their heads, then this is the show for you. Otherwise, I'd stick to the reruns of your favorite shows.

Absolutely terrible
caribbeanfever14 September 2009
Nick@Nite has gone through its fair share of annoying shows. But "Glenn Martin DDS" is so beyond annoying. It's simply repulsive. The show is too ridiculous to be taken seriously by adults, and far to inappropriate for children. It makes humor out of absolutely disgusting scenes and deaths, and the characters are so ridiculously annoying, particularly the teenage son. The fake laugh track is the least of this show's problems. Nick@Nite has a bad habit of putting on excellent shows and then canceling them as soon as the viewers start to really like it. But for them to get rid of the classics like "Cosby Show", "Roseanne", and "Home Improvement", and instead to replace it with "Glenn Martin DDS", which no one in their right mind would want to watch, absolutely boggles my mind. Please, Nick@Nite... haven't you ever heard of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it"? PLEASE get rid of this show. I not only make it a point NOT to watch, but if I happen to catch a glimpse of it, I am just repulsed. This show is so inappropriate and disgusting that it makes people of all ages squirm in their seats.

Foul, foul, foul- and directed at your kids
jstory-54 September 2009
There is only one word for it- foul. I can't believe this is on the network and at a time slot that I used to trust my kids to be able to watch. The graphic, adult nature would get it an NC-17 rating if it were in the theaters, and there is no cleverness here to balance the flat potty humor and sexual content, which in at least one episode was directly about kids and stripping. What was wrong, NICK- did you really need to compete with Comedy Central's trash? Do you think either I or my kids will be watching either this show or this network any more in the evening? NO! And I don't want to pay for it either! This is why we need CABLE CHOICE!! I AM SO TIRED AND DISAPPOINTED WITH PROGRAMMERS AND CABLE EXECUTIVES WHO DON"T CARE ABOUT KIDS- EVEN WHEN IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE A KID-FRIENDLY NETWORK!!!

Warning: Spoilers
I don't know how a show like this even got passed by NICK in the first place. I made an account to to comment how bad this show is! First off? the guys son gets a job, sticking his head in an elephants but? That is not funny, its just disgusting! And running into a wall, or tree or some other obstacle every 5 seconds isn't funny either! Ohh, and the show features pre-recorded laughter during these so called "funny parts" And its the same laughter every time! But in a way this show is a first for Nickelodeon, It is the first show that I have EVER seen with Guns! That's right, in all my years i have never seen Guns featured on NICK, Until now. Sure other shows have had, bazookas, flame throwers, and harpoons, but they all looked fictional, until now. This show won't last, as well as some 2 other recently new shows. NICK, Just keep making your existing shows better, instead or creating this trash.
