Miley Cyrus Closed Out the VMAs With a Killer Drag Show and a Surprise New Album

30 August 2015 9:23 PM, PDT | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

That song Miley closed out the VMAs with? It's part of a surprise new album with the Flaming Lips, Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz, which she just dropped for free, and you can stream it both on her website and below. It features Big Sean, Ariel Pink, her faithful producer Mike Will Made-It, her dad Billy Ray Cyrus, and more. And she's already got a vibrant video for its trap-heavy first single, "Dooo It!": Here's her VMAs performance, featuring several former RuPaul's Drag Race contestants (like most recent winner Violet Chachki), as well as Flaming Lips leader Wayne Coyne: And her accidental (?) boob-slip (obviously Nsfw): Until next year! »

Meet the 'RuPaul's Drag Race' Queens who performed with Miley Cyrus at the 2015 VMAs

30 August 2015 9:18 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

What can you say about Miley Cyrus' closing number at the 2015 Video Music Awards? There was a ridiculous death drop (thank you Laganja Estranja). There was a kiss with reigning "RuPaul's Drag Race" champion Violet Chachki. Oh, and yes, Ms. Vivacious looked a week bit tired, but chances are unless you're a fan of the only hit show on the Logo TV network you likely had no idea who those drag queens dancing around Ms. Cyrus were. Let us enlighten you.  It turns out Cyrus is such a big fan of "Drag Race" and drag in general that she sat through taping of the season 7 finale this past May.  She smartly put some of the better dancers around her on the front part of the stage including the previously mentioned Estranja, Alyssa Edwards (whose audio can be heard in Cyrus' new song "Dooo It!") and Shangela (a trio who »

We have to accept that J-Law's Cher impression is awful

10 July 2015 4:05 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Here are things Jennifer Lawrence can do well: Act. Give interviews. Mock Jack Nicholson for interrupting one of her interviews. Use a crossbow. Make David O. Russell films seem more human than they have any right to be. You know what's not on that list? An impression of Cher. No, J-Law. Hello Giggles tried telling us that J-Law's impersonation of Cher on "Conan" was, and I quote, "spot-on." Oh no, Hello Giggles. No, it wasn't. The thing is, we live in an age where many people have mastered the art of impersonating Cher. They have worked hard to capture her specific "Jimmy Stewart is drowning" instrument and they've done it. Let's remember to respect those artists before we go proclaiming J-Law the new Frank Caliendo. J-Law's impersonation is merely croaky, and Cher does not croak. She does a quavery whinny. There. Let’s Not Call Channing Tatum a ‘Stromo’ — ‘Straight Homo’

25 June 2015 3:42 PM, PDT | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

Former RuPaul's Drag Race judge and current THR writer Merle Ginsberg has noticed that a lot of straight male stars lately seem kind of, well, gay. And they're like totally cool with it. Her evidence? Adam Levine likes to wear V-necks! Tom Hardy said he experimented with boys! Channing Tatum danced on a gay pride float! "Straight male stars aren't stressed out at being perceived as gay or extremely gay-friendly," she writes in a piece for THR. "Far from feeling stigmatized, they welcome the gay gaze, staring invitingly and modeling shirtless on the covers of such gay magazines as Out and The Advocate, or both." And she has a word to identify this new species of men: "Stromos" — that is, "straight homos."I know, I know: yuck. However, if you look beyond the portmanteau, there's some validity to her argument. As of late, there is an obvious and concerted push »

'Empire' & 'Transparent' lead 2015 Television Critics Association Awards nominees

4 June 2015 12:00 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

"Empire" and "Transparent" were the big winners when the 2015 Television Criticis Association Awards nominees were announced, but will either newbie be able to knock off more well-established shows like "Mad Men" and "Big Bang Theory"? The way the TCA Awards (which will be presented at an untelevised ceremony in Beverly Hills on August 8) are structured, with no differentiation between lead and supporting actors, or between actors and actresses, and with a separate category to honor new series, a new show inevitably leads each year's nominations list. In this case, it was a pair of them: "Empire," which almost single-handedly brought the primetime soap, the Fox network, and broadcast television itself back from the dead; and "Transparent," the beautiful Amazon dramedy that the TCA membership at large opted to vote in as a comedy(*). RuPaul: 'Drag is dangerous. We are making fun of everything'

3 June 2015 10:00 AM, PDT | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

Riding high with his reality show Drag Race, the star tells us why he will never be mainstream, the importance of finding your tribe, and the secret to being a ‘badass bitch’

Before he was the world’s most famous drag queen, RuPaul Charles was a punk in a downtown Atlanta band called Wee Wee Pole. There’s an internet-famous prom picture of him in 1983, when he was 23 and dressed as if he’d just stepped off the set of the David Bowie movie Labyrinth. He was there as the date of his bandmate’s sister, but, he tells me, he dressed like that even when he was at the same school. “I was always RuPaul. Always. Even as a kid, I would dress up in my sisters’ clothes, in cowboy outfits, in sailor outfits. I loved putting on different costumes.”

The problem with the new winner of 'RuPaul's Drag Race'

2 June 2015 10:40 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

The tepid seventh season of "RuPaul's Drag Race" came to a close last night in decadent fashion. The three finalists, Ginger Minj, Pearl, and Violet Chachki sashayed for Ru's final blessing. Who won? Check below. We'll tell you why it's annoying.  Though Ginger Minj was the favorite going into the finale thanks to her wild showmanship and electrifying impersonation of Adele, the crown went to Violet Chachki. Take a look at her season highlight reel. In seasons past, contestants won "RuPaul's Drag Race" for exhibiting a range of charismatic traits. Season six winner Bianca Del Rio was snide, ferocious, and whip-smart. Season five winner Jinkx Monsoon was kooky, kitschy, and slyly carnal. Violet Chachki, meanwhile, is certainly a glamorous and compelling stage-walker, but she's exhibited none of the comic verve that has made so many other notable contestants (Sharon Needles, Alaska, Adore Delano, Willam) such indelible characters. In fact, Violet »
