Heathers Is Getting The Anthology TV Series Treatment

17 March 2016 12:35 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Heathers is getting a reboot. Thankfully, no-one involved in this new venture thinks remaking the movie is a good idea. Michael Lehmann’s black comedy remains one the best eighties teen flicks ever made. It’s cutting, clever and has perhaps the highest density of quotable one-liners per minute. So, what’s happening with this reboot then?

Viacom-owned cable network TV Land has ordered a pilot script for a TV anthology series loosely inspired by the 1989 feature. In case you’ve not seen it, the original film follows Winona Ryder’s character Veronica as she and Christian Slater’s J.D. navigate the struggles of high school while dealing with a trio of uber-popular girls named Heather. All three rule over the school hierarchy, and so Veronica and Jd plot to off them and pass it off as suicide.

The series plans to put a drastic spin on that set-up. »

Heathers TV Series in Early Stages of Development

17 March 2016 10:01 AM, PDT | DailyDead | See recent DailyDead news »

It’s hard to look at high school cliques the same way after seeing Heathers. The film has found an ever-growing following since its Us release in 1989, and now TV Land is in the early stages of developing an anthology series based on the cult classic:

Press Release: “New York, NY – March 16, 2016 – Dating a murderous psychopath and figuring out what to wear to your best friend’s suicide are typical teen problems for Veronica Sawyer. With a pilot script order for “Heathers,” TV Land is digging into the pitch-black comedy for their first anthology series, based on the cult classic film. Set in the present day, our heroine will be dealing with a very different but equally vicious group of Heathers. The script is written by Jason Micallef (“Butter”), and Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi will executive produce for Lakeshore Entertainment.

Heathers Series Headed To TV Land… Probably

17 March 2016 7:45 AM, PDT | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

Once there’s a musical, pretty much everything is fair game, and with that in mind, TV Land has started the ball rolling on a Heathers anthology series.

It’s tricky to imagine what the series might look like, but it apparently it focuses on Veronica coming out the other side of her time with the first Heathers to find herself in the present day with a new group of Heathers. You have to imagine that Veronica has grown into a rather interesting person, one way or another, after the experiences that have now become pop culture canon.

Skeptics might not look too highly on the idea of taking this crazy black comedy for a spin, but the script is coming from Jason Micallef, who wrote the fantastic film Butter.

While the original helped launch the careers of those involved, a new version may come down to finding just the »

Now a ‘Heathers’ TV series could be on the way

16 March 2016 11:30 PM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Remember the 1989 black comedy Heathers? The one where Christian Slater starred opposite Winona Ryder? Well, a TV pilot based on the classic movie has been ordered by TV Land.

The pilot will be set in the present day, and our heroine will be dealing with a very different but equally vicious group of Heathers. The pilotis written by Jason Micallef (Butter).

The original movie didn’t do too well when it was initially released, but gained a cult following in the years that followed, particularly on the home video market.

If you can’t remember the plot, here’s a reminder.

Veronica (Winona Ryder) is part of the most popular clique at her high school, but she disapproves of the other girls’ cruel behavior. When Veronica and her new boyfriend, J.D. (Christian Slater), confront clique leader Heather Chandler (Kim Walker) and accidentally poison her, they make it appear a suicide. »

'Heathers' Anthology Series Is Coming to TV Land

16 March 2016 1:04 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

The 1989 cult classic Heathers is about to get a makeover on the small screen, with a new TV series on TV Land. The Hollywood Reporter reveals that TV Land has put a new comedic anthology series based on the movie into development, which will put a much different spin on the story, now set in present-day. The site reports that the anthology aspect of the series will be similar to FX's Fargo, with each season featuring a new group of Heathers in different settings.

The original movie centered on Veronica (Winona Ryder) and her rebel boyfriend J.D. (Christian Slater), who hatch a plot to destroy all of the cool kids at their high school, who are dubbed "Heathers." The new series will center on Veronica, who is dealing with a much different group of Heathers, who are just as evil as they are popular, described as "high school royalty. »

TV Land Plans "Heathers" Anthology Series

16 March 2016 10:02 AM, PDT | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

TV Land ("Younger," "Teachers") has ordered a script for a TV pilot based on the cult classic 1989 pitch-black comedy "Heathers".

Daniel Waters' original film centered on Veronica (Winona Ryder) and rebel boyfriend J.D. (Christian Slater) and their trials and tribulations dealing with the social order in high school - a vicious place ruled by the iron fist of three girls all named Heather. The film also spawned a well-regarded stage musical adaptation in recent years.

The new series is said to be a single camera dark comedy series set in the present day in which our heroine will be dealing with a very different but equally vicious group of Heathers.

One difference - characters who would've been outcasts in the 1980s version are the trio this time out - Heather McNamara is a black lesbian; Heather Duke is a male named Heath who identifies as "gender-queer"; and Heather »
