I use this film to teach about the environment, youth, and Native Americans. It is the story of three teenage boys and their journey to understanding themselves and their community, while they also explore what is being done to the environment. Everything about the film is stirring, as corporations purvey corporate-speak, government officials equivocate, and activists and families fight back. Meanwhile, the boys battle quietly but intensely to maintain their fragile families and to affirm their friendships, supported by a handful of individuals and organizations, and by their community. Among the top documentaries ever made.
