"Uma Canção Para Ti" is the Portuguese version of the original Italian musical contest "Ti lascio una canzone". I don't know about the version from Italy, but the one from Portugal was such a success that they decided to make a 2nd edition. My review is mostly to talk about the 1st edition, which I will never forget and will always have a special place in my heart. It was, without a doubt, the very best in practically everything: well developed, fresh, entertaining, fun, pleasant to watch and a breath of fresh air in a generation which bad stuff on TV is a major reality. The program is hosted by Manuel Luís Goucha and Júlia Pinheiro, both illustrious people. The program was great in its 1st edition, something of superior quality: backgrounds and stages were nice, fresh, modern and full of life, colors and lights. The suits for the artists (chosen by the production) were much more elegant and sophisticated. The program itself was way more amusing. As for the artists, the 1st edition introduced a high number of extraordinary singers, clearly superior to the much smaller number of truly great artists of the 2nd edition. Plus, the selection of songs was generally better and most of the singers more charming and captivating in personality and style than those from the 2nd edition. But there's more. The duets and songs sang by more than 2 artists were more successful and the artists better chosen. When it comes to the opening song and final song of each one of the 3 episodes, it was much more distinctive, original and beautiful to see and even with an almost magical feeling about it. The 2nd edition, on the other hand, lacked this unique and special feeling, with marches that were all basically the same in every episode, becoming repetitive. In the 1st edition, when they named the winner, the party was such that it was so much nicer to watch and the winner was far more fair than that of the 2nd edition. Also, the 1st edition had the honor of being one of the best and most relevant programs of 2008, as well as a nice surprise - and it was on air during Christmas time. This is a contest where young artists between 8 and 15 years old reveal their skills by singing popular Portuguese songs.Like I said, the contestants of the 1st edition are unique and can't be replaced. My favorites are Miguel Guerreiro, Rafael Bailão, Beatriz Costa, Jorge Leiria, Miguel Silva and Iolanda Costa. João Pedro Carmo comes after these and, in last place, Luís Caeiro. The few ones from the 2nd edition that can be compared to the ones from the 1st edition are João Lotra, José Geadas, João Maria Carvalho and Rita Filipe.Back to the 1st edition, the best singers have such distinctive, powerful and expressive voices. Amazing how they grow in stage and transform into real artists and professionals. Also, everyone was kind and friendly to each other, they always smiled and kept their cheery disposition. The singers themselves like each others very much and remain friends. And all of this despite the nerves and anxiety they've been through the contest.Other 2 things that happened in the 1st edition that didn't happen in the 2nd were: the 5 contestants that didn't make it until the final episode had a chance to sing together one song; all contestants were interviewed by the end of the final episode, one by one (in some cases, even their parents and brothers or sisters). However, it wasn't all roses. This is one of those contests which the majority of votes belong to the public and, as such, some injustices occurred. For example, certain excellent singers were forced to leave the contest because of the poor number of votes, while some others that were not that great were much more voted. This happened both in both editions and says a lot...My favorite jury member was always Pedro Granger. He is nice, honest, playful and quick and sincere on his opinions.Miguel Guerreiro, the "Nightingale", won the 1st edition. He is lovable, sweet and funny. Rafael Bailão has an original personality and is kind, sweet, hilarious, fun and was always solitary whenever a contestant was put out of the game, crying with them. I also like the personalities of Beatriz Costa, Jorge Leiria, Miguel Silva, João Lotra, José Geadas and João Maria Carvalho.
