Most people seeing this movie know it is my class project. The story comes from a lot of real-life inspiration and experiences I either shared with friends, or knew about through them.
There was a really long screenplay that would have had things show differently, but I'm really happy with the way everything turned out. I could not ask for better improvisational acting. Everybody took enough from their original wordy scripts and put out there what they thought was the predominant voice. The rooftop scenes hopefully don't confuse everybody, but I could just not let it go: This element helps tell the story in the way I wanted to see it. I picture it as a movie that is easier to enjoy if you like hip-hop, fiery dialogue, and differing camera angles (no "talking heads" here!). And why the title? Well it's a well known link to Run DMC and gave me something that the guys could have shared when they were growing up. The screenplay had a whole different twist to it where Tanvir had, Bobby, and Kasey all have a last name that means king (Shah, Reyes, and "Reigal," respectively). The biggest par the screenplay is missing from the movie, just because it didn't get used much in the natural dialogue between the actors. Tanvir moved to Brooklyn and got into his trouble there, and Bobby would have told him to remember where he came from (Queens) and stop identifying himself with his new surroundings: "I'm sick of all this Brooklyn talk! Forget B-K, Kings county. You're from Queens!" Down with the Kings!"
