Warning: Spoilers
This is the day in the life of Jane Grey (Natasha Bain, who also wrote some of the script), a black actress struggling between her career, her love life and how she's dealing with it all. A breakup with a married man has done more damage to her self-esteem than it should have and she wants to see him one last time, all while getting ready to audition for a role that she's certain that she can't get.

It all sounds rather depressing, but as this is directed by Andrew Rajan, the long dialogue segments really inform you all about Jane and how she's trying to keep her life from going to pieces.

Obviously, I'll never be a black actress trying to live a modern life in London, but this film puts you directly into the mind and aware of the decisions that its protagonist makes.

Beautiful, painful 'no budget' jewel
vicmworsley30 January 2022
Andrew Rajan's beautiful and painful analysis of abandonment and compulsion through the story of one young woman's passionate love and desperate heart-break. The bitter politics of race, adoption and the acting industry are all key to the experiences she shares as we travel through London with her on that day - and its shocking denouement.

A jewel on 'no budget'. Watch it.

Natasha Bain outstanding in a poignant, touching film about painful love
camplingm-6577924 January 2022
The creator, Andrew Rojan, has chosen to take an actor out of the bustle of London and show her unimaginable pain and longing. She has fallen for Duncan, a married man. Most of the film depicts her moving around London doing just ordinary things - walking along the street, taking a bus, visiting her old acting school - but all the time the insistant inner voice, going over and over her life, her pain, her shattering love affair. She visits the National Gallery and in those paintings we see her own violence and passion. A particularly memorable scene is where the insensitive director encourages Jane to present Lady MacBeth 'In your own accent' - here Jane acknowledges that she's never just hired to act, but also to 'be a black actor'. The climax is genuinely shocking as she finally presents herself at her married lover's home. He closes the piano in his study as though he's closing her possibilities for happiness. But Jane has a final shocking demonstration of her love to share with him...
