An indie zombie flick that's not terrible
Leofwine_draca21 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
LOCKED AWAY is a real surprise: an indie zombie film which isn't completely terrible. It's quite fun in places and it has a good, action-focused storyline to keep it moving along nicely. The story is about an Iraq war veteran who returns home to find himself in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. He must then join with his friends and family members in a bid to escape the menace.

There's zombie hijinks a-plenty here and the good news is that the zombie makeup is pretty good. The acting is about what you'd expect, but the direction is superior for an indie movie and there are even a handful of suspense sequences. Yes, it's low budget indeed, but somehow likable with it.

Pretty Bad

Amazon's description: "Start with throwback horror techniques, mix 2 parts Night of the Living Dead, 1 part Phantasm, & 1 dysfunctional family and you get: Locked Away." Yeah no. This is certainly no Night of the Living Dead, and I don't know where the hell they're getting Phantasm from, because this is NOTHING like that film.

Basically this is a pretty standard low budget zombie flick, generally awful, adds nothing new to the genre, and has no scares to speak of. Weirdly, though, I liked the lead actor, but he's the only decent element in the movie. Otherwise, the dialogue and acting are completely atrocious. I've seen far worse films, though, and if you think you haven't, then you haven't looked hard enough.

Family Strife...

LOCKED AWAY is a low-low-budget zombie film. For the amount of money spent, it's not bad at all. The zombie makeup ranges from acceptable to very good. The story, about a family's battle against the undead horde, is decent. The strong relationship between the two brothers is the heart of the movie.

Though it does drag in parts, and the acting can be spotty, it's quite watchable. Also, the final conflict is far above that of most similar films, There's also no cartoonish, CGI gore to worry about!

EXTRA CREDIT: For the novel / unorthodox method employed to exterminate the shambling flesh-eaters.

Recommended for lovers of the genre who are looking for something different...

I have NEVER seen a worse film. You won't last 2 minutes into this abomination. Complete and total garbage!

Not the worst movie I've ever seen

Easily better than the last 10 Adam Sandler movies.

Plus, the guy playing the professor kills!
