Justin, a second-generation immigrant, has just returned home to the town of Hawkersham. It is a port town where illegal immigrants come in search for a new life. Instead they are used as slave labour, sex workers and are forced to fight with their lives at stake in an underground combat rink. All Justin wants is to live a quiet life with his long lost love Leelu. Unfortunately, the ruthless owner of 'the Cage' wants her as well. Justin is forced to fight to protect her. They forced him to fight. They should have known better! Written by
This little martial arts film from Western Australia is pretty good for what it was made for. Kenny Low is a good leading man and there are some strong performances, the villains are particularly good.
The story focuses on Kenny Low's character being forced to fight as the only means an immigrant can support himself in a fictional country town in Australia. He is motivated by a simple desire to be with a girl played by Tracey Baker and the forces that pull them apart. The main bad guy also has an interest in her and it is the relationship between these three characters that is the focus of the film.
The fights are pretty good and the story plays out fairly well. The film won't change your life, but it is not without its moments. I look forward to seeing what the filmmakers can come up with if they get more to work with.
