Parents Guide for
Rock of Ages (2012) More at IMDbPro »

The content of this page was created directly by users and has not been screened or verified by IMDb staff.
Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that, instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, you use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.

Sex & Nudity

Sherrie and many other women in the film are seen in tight, revealing clothes. Short skirts, plunging necklines, and bikinis are seen throughout. At the Venus club, Sherrie and other women strip and dance erotically on poles as men fling money at them. Critical nudity is hidden. There are several of these dancing scenes. We briefly see strippers at the Bourbon Room in one of the opening scenes, as well as during one of the concerts. As a waitress, Sherrie has her backside spanked and grabbed several times.

When we first see Stacee Jaxx, he's in bed with three or four women. They are all asleep, and we see the girls move away from him as he gets up. It's implied they're naked, we see their shoulders and upper backs.

Stacee has sex with Constance twice. The first time is long and quite explicit for a PG-13 movie. They both strip and dance in a way that mimics explicit sexual movements. Stacee lunges his head in between Constance's legs (she is still wearing a bra and panties), and Constance undoes the fly on Stacee's pants and does a similar movement. They end up sitting on a pool table, and we briefly see them thrusting forward.

Their second tryst is in a bathroom, they passionately (and sort of violently) thrash around the bathroom as they kiss and grope, partially undressed.

Stacee gropes the (clothed) breasts of several different women during the film, and he wears a tight costume that partially reveals his backside. In the song "Pour Some Sugar on Me," he turns away from the audience and moves his hand towards his crotch suggestively, mimicking masturbation as water sprays around the stage. A photo inside one of his albums shows Patricia topless (Stacee's arm covers her breasts)

It's implied Drew and Sherrie have sex in a montage that shows them kissing on a bed, with Sherrie in a bra and panties. Strong sexual references and jokes are made throughout the movie, many of them from Russell Brand's character. He and Dennis are gay lovers, and we see them kiss passionately.

Patricia's husband is seen having an affair with another woman. We see her slap him in the backside with a ruler, and we see them kissing and caressing in an armchair.

Violence & Gore

Someone gets tossed off The Bourbon's stage. Sherrie slaps Drew. Constance rolls off of Stacee Jaxx and falls to the floor. Jaxx's baboon destroys office furniture. Policemen slam a fleeing criminal against a wall. Sherrie has her suitcase forcefully stolen from her.

At least 1 F-word, 2 obscene hand gestures, 11 sexual references, 12 scatological terms, 10 anatomical references, 7 mild obscenities, hundreds of people making the rock horns or devil horns hand symbol, 2 religious profanities, 8 religious exclamations.

Name-calling (unreliable, nonsensical, crazy, sick, satanic, douche, oily).

12 stereotypical references to 1980s fashion, men, women, Asian women, rock musicians, female groupies, conservatives, strippers, body guards, club owners.

Stacee drinks in almost all of his scenes, including one scene where he downs an entire bottle of old whiskey in seconds. Although he drinks the most, everyone else in the film does as well. Some smoking as well.
