Honorable Mention: Dwayne Johnson in Journey 2: The Mysterious Island This list would be invalid if I failed to honor The Rock for his continuing achievement in physical perfection. 10. Taylor Kitsch in John Carter While the movie was widely (and unfairly) panned by critics, there's one thing we all can agree on: Taylor Kitsch looked pretty darn good in that loincloth. If I were Princess Dejah, I'd be swooning too. 9. Tom Cruise in Rock of Ages Tom Cruise may be 50 years old, but man, his abs tell a different story. Channeling his inner rock god, Cruise stars as musician Stacee Jaxx, spending 90% of the rock musical shirtless, but I'm not complaining. 8. Daniel Craig in Skyfall We are all in agreement that Daniel Craig is most sculpted Bond, right? Sorry Sean. From taking a dip in a rooftop pool to digging bullet fragments out of his shoulder to steamy shower scenes, »
A man puts an ad in the local paper seeking a companion for his time-travel mission. Is this a prelude to a sci-fi adventure or an inventive lonelyhearts ad? We're strung along as to whether or not this guy's genuine for so long, there's room to smuggle in a relaxed indie romcom in the interim – Plaza is great company as she forges a connection with the paranoid inventor (Duplass). The sci-fi element isn't quite a red herring, but by the time it flowers, we've already learned plenty about living in the past.

There’s a statement made by screenwriter William Goldman about the movie business: ‘Nobody knows nothing.’
Bearing this in mind, here’s a list of ten films in 2012 whose box office returns left a studio decision-makers scratching their heads on their miserable year in order of domestic gross totals.
10. John Carter, $73 million
The big-budget movie had a disappointing opening weekend, and none of its elements clicked with the public. Despite making a global gross of nearly $283 million, it didn’t even come close to earning $100 milion in the Us alone after a four-month run.
9. Battleship, $65.2 million
Battleship was no John Carter at the weekend box office, but opened with a miserable $25 million. Starring the same actor, Taylor Kitsch, perhaps one of these movies needed a bigger name. However, it’s best not to rely on Rihanna.
8. The Three Stooges, $44.3 million

Does Tom Cruise have a new girlfriend? The New York Post reports that last week the Jack Reacher star, 50, spent a night out at New York hot spot Le Baron and hit the dance floor with Cynthia Jorge, a 26-year-old manager of Beauty & Essex. "Cynthia told me they went out for drinks and it was nothing but a casual night out. She said he's a nice guy," a source tells People. Sources close to Jorge also tell the Post that she was simply "showing Tom some of the city's hotspots" and that the actor and Jorge are "just friends." A »
Let's close the year with something really meta, shall we?
Art really starts imitating itself when there's a Top 10 list of Top 10 lists. But really, with so many Top 10 lists out there, we felt it only appropriate to consolidate our favorites into one handy location. And then, sometime down the line, someone can make a Top 10 list of the best Top 10 Top 10 lists. It boggles the mind, doesn't it? And it should.
Before things get even more complicated, here are the 10 best Top 10 lists of 2012. And here's to even more in 2013!
10. 10 Crazy Movie Plots that Happened in Real Life
That scene in "The Book of Eli" where Denzel Washington singlehandedly takes on 15 guys isn't as far-fetched as you might think. Here are 10 seemingly unbelievable real-life stories that were told through the movies, from Henry Hill's strange journey in "Goodfellas" to the flying house in "Up."
9. The Baddest Movies of 2012
- NextMovie Staff
This was … unexpected. Despite dropping an estimated 56% in its second weekend in theaters, Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey maintained its hold on the box-office top slot, besting at least five newcomers. The Hobbit earned an estimated $36.7M from screenings in various formats, more than twice the amount earned by Jack Reacher ($15.6M), the movie that landed in second place. This ranks as a relative slow start for a Tom Cruise thriller – particularly one that’s adapted from a powerful series of crime novels. Case in point: Cruise’s latest Mission: Impossible opened to $12.7M back in 2011, but that was only in 425 theaters. However, earlier this year, Cruise’s Rock of Ages...

Returning for its fourth year we are proud to present the annual HeyUGuys movie awards – The Truffles.
As each year draws to a close we let our wonderful team of writers loose on the movie landscape to throw plaudits at the great and good and fettered eggnog at those responsible for the bad and cinematically reprehensible.
Here’s our take on the highs and lows of Movietown in 2012.
First up on stage…
Best use of CGI: Rust & Bone
It’s always the subtle work which yields the best results. Buoyed by a stunning turn by Marion Cotillard, the CG artists here do a remarkable and flawless job of presenting to the audience what looks like a genuine amputee. The results are shocking, wholly believable and never once distract from the drama.
Best film yet to be released in the UK: Beyond the Black Rainbow

Tom Cruise has denied that he is dating Rock of Ages co-star Malin Akerman's sister Jennifer Akerman. Jennifer was recently in attendance at the Stockholm premiere of Cruise's latest action film Jack Reacher, where she was observed spending time with the actor. The pair's evening together at the premiere party led to rumors that they are dating, but a spokesperson for Cruise has now insisted that he is single. A supposed friend of Cruise also told E! News: "The whole thing is completely ridiculous. Jennifer was there with her whole family who were cropped out of the picture. She happily lives with her (more) »

Feature James Clayton Dec 21, 2012
With 2012 drawing to a close, James looks back over the year's movies - as seen from a strange alternate universe...
So 2012, then. Helluva ride, huh? I saw many films and some of them were films within films and films about films and now we’ve all ended up in a disaster movie of our own at the arrival of the Mayan apocalypse that Mel Gibson warned us about way back when. We didn’t even get to enjoy Christmas.
Never mind though. Before Jaguar Paw came screaming out of the Mesoamerican rainforest and we all perished as doomsday struck, we watched some brilliant movies. The past calendar year has been packed with superb cinematic releases, and looking back from the other side of oblivion, I see that we were spoiled.
Unfortunately, from this standpoint on the flipside of forever, I can’t actually see the old timeline of reality. »

Has Tom Cruise fallen for the sister of his Rock of Ages costar Malin Akerman? The Rock of Ages star sparked romance rumors when he was spotted cozying up to Jennifer Akerman last week at the afterparty for the Stockholm premiere of his crime drama flick Jack Reacher. According to the U.K.'s The Sun, Jennifer and Tom "hit it off naturally," as they spent time together at the event at Rose club, laughing and chatting with each other throughout the night. But was the duo's chatfest nothing more than casual convo? A rep for Cruise told E! News that rumors of Tom and Jennifer are dating are not true. "The whole thing is completely ridiculous," a »
Tom Cruise is reportedly dating Jennifer Akerman. The 50-year-old actor was seen getting close to the blonde beauty - whose sister is his 'Rock Of Ages' co-star Malin Akerman - at the afterparty for the Swedish premiere of his latest movie 'Jack Reacher' in Stockholm and are even thought to have left the party together. A source told The Sun newspaper: 'They already knew of each other from Malin being in 'Rock Of Ages' so they didn't need much of an introduction. 'Even though Tom was working the room, once they got chatting they were locked in. 'They seemed very natural in each other's company for most of the night and at the afterparty at »
Tom Cruise is a force to be reckoned with, love him...or less than love him. The man can't be kept down and, as it turns out, bad press and multiple divorces are no match for his drive, talent and mile-wide smile as he continues to own the box office and churn out an incredible amount of performances per year. And he's not getting any younger, though his shirtless part in Rock of Ages would beg to differ.
From his early roles as eye candy to his transformation to action star, Cruise is one of the world's biggest stars and he next takes on the title role of Jack Reacher, an ex-military drifter who gets involved in a multiple murder case in the upcoming movie directed by Christopher McQuarrie (The Way of the Gun).
Though he hasn't slowed down, and has a handful of upcoming movie projects, we like us some vintage Cruise, »

Awards season is now underway, which means for the next few months Hollywood will carry out its competitive annual tradition of putting roses on the noses, so to speak, of the year's decidedly best actors and actresses of the human variety. Looking back at some of the finest flicks from 2012, though, we noticed some pretty significant contributions coming in courtesy of the rest of the animal kingdom.
So, to throw our furry film friends a proverbial golden bone, here are our top five picks for tail-waggingest animal performances of the year.
5. Bella as Snoopy in 'Moonrise Kingdom'
The ensemble rallied up for Wes Anderson's jaunty "Moonrise Kingdom" made for one insanely impressive and electric group, but the talent on two legs certainly didn't overshadow Bella the fox terrier. The wily pooch, whose real-life survival story wins all the smiles as well, made excellent use of her screen »

Jingle bells must be a-ringin', because Glee's holiday episode is right around the corner! "Glee, Actually" - which we can only guess must be inspired by Love, Actually - is airing tonight, and Rock of Ages director Adam Shankman is behind the camera this year, so I'm anticipating some killer choreography. We've already gotten a look at some official photos, but these behind-the-scenes pics shared by the stars give a lot more insight on what we'll get to see in the episode. Tom Cruise as a bad-ass: Is that still possible?
I was sure that Rock of Ages would kill off Tom Cruise's self-consciously cool persona for good, but in these new clips from the actioner Jack Reacher, it appears he's still trying to sell us on superspy catchphrases and that CSI: Miami can't-touch-this voice.
Say what you will about the relatively staid nature of these clips, but you'll remember that Knight & Day wasn't terrible. Nor was the last Mission: Impossible. I've learned not to judge Tom Cruise's movies by their trailers and clips because somehow, some way, they usually end up better than they have any right to be. I say this with one notable exception: I have never understood Tropic Thunder. And it's because of his "comic" performance in that movie that we had to deal with him in Rock of Ages, so I consider that film truly unforgivable. »

It's the end of the world as Tom Cruise knows it.
Tom Cruise has been playing a lot of Jacks recently, notably Jack Reacher in the aptly-named, upcoming action thriller Jack Reacher and earlier this year as Stacee Jaxx in the (choose your own adjective expressing disappointment) musical Rock of Ages. The latest "Jack" character is Oblivion's Jack Harper, who patrols an uninhabited earth and repairs damaged drones on the battle-ravaged planet's surface.

1.) After first surfacing on a shortlist comprised of young actors and actresses practically no one has heard of, Nicola Peltz and Brenton Thwaites have emerged to score the lead roles in Transformers 4. Peltz (The Last Airbender) will play Mark Wahlberg's daughter, while Thwaites, best known for the Lifetime movie Blue Lagoon: The Awakening, will play her racecar driving boyfriend. Twitch 2.) I thought the idea of a Salt sequel had been put to rest, but it turns out the producers were just taking their time finding the right screenwriter. Kurt Wimmer, who wrote the original, actually turned in a script for the sequel last year, but Angelina Jolie didn't think it was up to snuff. The producers then launched a year-long search for a new writer, who they now seem to think they have found in Becky Johnston, writer of the very un-Salt-y Seven Years in Tibet and The Prince of Tides. »
