NBC's The Player Adds Daisy Betts in Recast of Ex-Wife

NBC's The Player Adds Daisy Betts in Recast of Ex-Wife
NBC’s The Player is shuffling the deck a bit, adding Daisy Betts (The Last Resort) in the role of Philip Winchester’s on-screen ex.

Cara Buono (Mad Men, Person of Interest) played the role, quite effectively, in the pilot.

RelatedTVLine’s Fall TV First Impression: NBC’s The Player

Per our sister site Deadline, Betts’ role is described as recurring, which is interesting since Ginny — and this is no spoiler — is murdered early on, sending ex-husband Alex on a vengeful warpath that promptly introduces him to the enigmatic Mr. Johnson, played by Wesley Snipes.

Afterward, Alex is recruited to

‘Wayward Pines’ Review: Stellar Cast Steers Unpredictable Thrill Ride

‘Wayward Pines’ Review: Stellar Cast Steers Unpredictable Thrill Ride
The name M. Night Shyamalan promises unexpected twists and turns, and though his legacy has become somewhat tarnished since the heady days of “The Sixth Sense,” he absolutely delivers with Fox’s upcoming “Wayward Pines” 10-episode limited series. Shyamalan is an executive producer and directs the pilot. Adapted by Chad Hodge (“The Playboy Club”) from Blake Crouch’s popular book series, “Pines” has been rightfully compared to David Lynch’s ambitious “Twin Peaks,” but it also shares striking similarities with other shows including “The Prisoner,” “Lost” and the more obscure “Persons Unknown.” Things are never what they seem and no

Wayward Pines Season 1 Review

This review is based on the first two episodes of season one, which we were provided with by Fox prior to broadcast.

This May brings along the five year anniversary of the Lost series finale. The amount of shows that have launched in the wake of the ABC juggernaut, and subsequently failed to capture its magic, are innumerable. There have been surprisingly good tries (the second season of Revolution) and colossal failures (Persons Unknown, indeed), but by-and-large it appears most everyone has come to the same conclusion: it’s time to stop trying. And that’s okay. Television is nothing if not malleable, and just as the influx of gruff anti-heroes rose to power following Breaking Bad (and, really, The Sopranos), we’ve seen fewer and fewer as the Los Pollos Hermanos gets smaller and smaller in our rearview mirrors.

Why mention all of this? Because the same appears to

Matt Dillon Leads All-Star Cast In Creepy, Genre-Bending Thriller “Wayward Pines”

How do you describe the indescribable? That is one of the biggest challenges facing Fox’s 10-part psychological thriller, Wayward Pines. A secret service agent finds himself in an idyllic town, but upon closer inspection, he realizes that the residents live under a strict set of rules governed by a sinister, omnipresent force. It’s a premise eerily familiar to fans of the cult drama Twin Peaks, or even the short-lived NBC drama Persons Unknown, but Pines comes with a series of tantalizing twists courtesy of the show’s executive producer and director, M. Night Shyamalan. The series is Shyamalan’s first project for … Continue reading →

Wayward Pines Review – TV Fox

The best thing about Wayward Pines, the new, short-run effort coming to Fox, is watching how it attempts to learn from the mistakes of similar shows that have come before.

From the less-than-stellar “remake” of The Prisoner with Jim Caviezel and Ian McKellen, to the largely goofball Persons Unknown (which was, sort of, The Prisoner 2: The Group), and everything else in the “trapped in a town” genre, the story can’t work if the characters are empty plot devices.

Wayward Pines is a rare example of setting out with the tropes and traps of a genre in order to dodge the pitfalls inherent in telling a type of story that can never fully distance itself from the fact that it’s pretty goofy. The problem is that while the show clearly tries to look at what made other efforts fall apart, and do those things differently, it isn’t

Meet Marvel’s Black Panther: Chadwick Boseman

Meet Marvel’s Black Panther: Chadwick Boseman
After breaking out as Jackie Robinson and James Brown in “42” and “Get On Up,” Chadwick Boseman has a new high-profile role to play: T’Challa, otherwise known as the superhero Black Panther.

Created by Stan Lee with Jack Kirby, the character is notable for being the first black superhero in mainstream American comicbooks.

The king of the fictional nation of Wakanda, T’Challa joined the Avengers in 1968. He will be prominently featured in “Captain America: Civil War,” May 6, 2016, before being spun off into his own film on Nov. 3, 2017.

Wakanda has the world’s largest deposits of vibranium, a highly durable meteoric ore that is used to create the mesh in Black Panther’s costume and Captain America’s shield. The material will play a larger role in future Marvel movies.

But so will Black Panther, a character that has long been in Marvel’s plans as a potential franchise

'Powers': Comic book TV show coming to Playstation Network in December

'Powers': Comic book TV show coming to Playstation Network in December
An adaptation of superhero-noir comic book Powers was long in development at FX. It had a full creative team — including the comic’s co-creator Brian Michael Bendis, who talked about the series with EW back in 2011. A pilot was even shot, with Jason Patric and Lucy Punch in the lead roles. But the project went into turnaround, with rumors of a new creative direction.

And if nothing else, we now know that direction led Powers right off cable television and into the frontier of streaming TV. At their press conference on Monday, Sony took a break from announcing new videogames

42's Chadwick Boseman Lands Lead In James Brown Biopic

It would seem that Hollywood sees Chadwick Boseman as the go-to actor to play African-American icons. Just a few months after the actor scored positive marks for his performance as race-barrier breaking baseball player Jackie Robinson, the young actor has been cast as James Brown in the upcoming biopic about the Godfather of Soul, according to Variety. Directed by Tate Taylor, who broke out a few summers ago directing and adapting the Academy Award-winning The Help, the film will chronicle Brown's entire life story as he escaped a life of extreme poverty and violence to become one of the most famous, dynamic performers of all time. The project has a couple high profile producers attached, including Brian Grazer and Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger. Prior to being cast in 42, Boseman primarily worked on television, starring in the series Persons Unknown and Lincoln Heights, and starring in single episodes of shows

TV Review: The Twilight Zone “Person Or Persons Unknown”

The fine folks over at Image Entertainment were nice enough to send us the newly released affordable edition of The Twilight Zone: Season Three, and like the first two seasons of the classic TV show, season three is as solid as it gets. While most of the episodes are just as awesome, I thought I’d focus on my favorite of the season’s episodes, the amazing “Person or Persons Unknown“.

Person or Persons Unknown is one of the many episodes that really highlight the vision of The Twilight Zone, and it’s one of the episodes that has always left an impression on me throughout the years. It tells the story of David Gurney (played So well by Richard Long, The House On Haunted Hill), a man who after waking up with a hangover, tries to wake his wife up. When she wakes up, she instantly begins to flip out,

The Twilight Zone: The Complete Third Season Episodes Only DVD Release From Image Entertainment.

Who doesn’t love The Twilight Zone? Well, I don’t know, but I know I don’t want to meet them. It’s safe to assume that most horror fans of any form of advance age(I’m 35) grew up, at the very least, watching re-runs of The Twilight Zone on syndicated television. Some of the creepiest moments in television history are thanks to this series. Hell, I remember as a kid, when I was falling asleep to the sound of the TV playing in the background, just the sound of the opening theme chilled me to my core. I have so many fond memories of watching this show as a child, and as an adult.

Collectors of media are aware, The Twilight Zone has been available on various formats, in various packages for us to consume. But, they’ve always been a bit on the pricey side. I
