Better than expected
ledonatella13 July 2021
I like this they do not automatically assume everything is genuine or jump to fantastical inclusions. Obviously they want their items to be real but they are pretty careful to not say it's not known for sure. Plus Josh Gates narration is perfect.

Any educational value, please?
creepycrawl6816 January 2021
Right, we paticipate in the travels of two self-made millionaires on their quest about a mystery of a Knight Templars treasure. Both of them don't seem to know much about history, and I coudn't figure that they cared too much about their lack. I've been to the Wewelsburg and in Tomar and I guess I could give you more historical insights than delivered here. So thanks for the pictures of those venues, but apart from that I was only annoyed. So it's more like following two unsympathetic guys on a holiday to places they find astonishing. That's pretty boring to watch and there's not much of a value to gain out of it. Indeed, if they would do a tour to their favourite pubs that might be more entertaining ... and maybe even more educational?

It Drives Me Crazy To See Relics Handled With Bare Hands
katiesewed29 May 2022
The series is extremely light on authentication. I'm not sure of Josh Gates' relationship with these guys, who are called relic hunters. The provenance of the items in the show is not explained. Some of the relics like coins could have been found by these guys, some of it could have been purchased from local markets or landowners, or were family heirlooms, but I imagine much of it is from the black market. Can you buy a Templar helmet and sword from Sotheby's? I personally have a real problem with rich people owning priceless pieces of history just because they have the money. I believe history belongs to us all, and relics should be in a museum, not in some guy's living room or garage. Edit - after watching a few more episodes, I am thankful that these guys have put in the time and money to track down these Templar relics that have apparently been scattered across the world. The program and the two owners of these artifacts could go a lot farther in the authentication and dating of the various relics. I am thankful that they are showing them to the world. Regardless of your views on private ownership, the series is a worthwhile watch.

Really not all that great

So not sure how long it took to film this but the guy with the hat never changes his shirt if he truly is a millionaire you would think he could spring for some new threads.

Lynn Pinknett destroyed any credibility this series had...
dadodger7 October 2021
Lynn Pinknett's appearance on episode 2 of season 2 just destroyed any credibility this show had. Spouting her far-fetched theories about the Black Madonna and her heretical, blasphemous, unsubstantiated views on Jesus as fact...it's laughable. To hear someone spouting off authoritatively about "DaVinci Code"- like fantasies as fact makes the whole thing a sham. A pity, because the factual, historical aspects have been enlightening and enjoyable.

"In the last days, scoffers will come..." Lynn Pinknett's appearance here at least confirms biblical prophecy.

Awful, fake artifacts

Warning: Spoilers
I am a big fan of Josh Gates, despite dodgy "finds" in his Expedition Unknown series. But this is truly appalling. I'm not an expert; I've got a degree in Archaeology but don't work in the field, but the "relics" presented in Episode 1 are POORLY executed reproductions/fakes. The fact that they won't submit them to be authenticated is when I stopped watching. Terrible!

2 super creepy guys you'd never trust ...
ix-582584 January 2022
Whoever these two "antique collector" guys are, they ring all the creep factor alarm bells.

Looking at them makes one's skin crawl, but, hey, they want you to trust them to buy into some stories about their junk since they're entirely too self-interested and sociopathic to let actual Historians, conservators, and people who's whole lives are dedicated to the the things they claim look at the things at ANY reputable British museum, confirming provenance and other important bits they conveniently skip over.

strange and stranger
makeupwithme9 June 2022
1. Who handles these so-called relics like that?

2. Did you see the guy drag the ancient stone next to the big water hole? No one would ever drag that stone against stone if it was real. Nor put it right next to a hole in the ground!

3. No lady.....they are NOT worshipping a chalice. They're Christians worshipping the body and blood of Christ. That's why the chalice is such a big deal. The blood of Christ is in it. That is Christianity 101 and for her to not know that tells you that she's a scam. Also, there was a carving with a big white circle with a cross in it above a chalice and she had no idea what it was. Duh, it's the host aka the body of Christ.

Strangely ignorant.

Garbage history
RedRyderINW10 November 2021
This series is mostly based on romantic notions and has almost zero authentic, scholarly research being done. A lot of their "research" is grasping at straws. Their conclusions are based on the most tenuous connections one could make. Further, some of the information they give is just blatantly false, as anyone with even a basic understanding of authentic history can tell. Complete rubbish. I'm guessing the two rich guys created the show in an attempt to portray themselves as serious academics. I'm disappointed that Josh Gates agreed to narrate this with as much drivel as the series contains.

Very weak evidence that any of the artifacts found were related to the Knights Templar.

First: I am a big fan of many shows on the history channel.

Very weak evidence that any of the artifacts found were related to the Knights Templar.

Dodgy, at best.
fidraisle-115 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
In the first episode, the two 'collectors' are given two options for authenticating their "Hoard" either 1) Take it to the British museum and have it properly examined or 2) Do it yourself and go harrying off acorss the world doing your own research and coming to your own conclusions. Yeh, they went for the second option, at that point I turned it off. Besides that, the items looked dodgy. One of the goblets looks like something I've seen repeatedly at re-enactor markets. The hilt of the sword is a bit short based on the length of the blade. I've seen daggers in museums with longer handles. As a plot for a film, this sounds good, as a legimate discovery....not so much.

Um, NO.
konstantinavalentina31 January 2022
We have things, but, we're not going to get them authenticated anywhere, by anyone with any credibility, because trust us.

This isn't History. Stuffy and Chuckles are not even watchable as people. There's something WRONG with both of those guys. The show would be satisfying if police arrested them both for some shady stuff they've totally done, and the rest of the series focuses on actual factual historians documenting, and describing what's what out of their junk collections.

... but, it's not that, so, um, no.

When you see that Josh Gates is involved you know it fake trash!
cdeanroane6 October 2021
Josh Gates, at best is a lovable boob, who doesn't have a nodding acquiescence of the truth. There was old saying where I grew up "if music was hot air he be whole brass band."! Josh only talent is that of being a very bad hammy actor. Being an actor is something he neglects to mention in his opening of Expedition Unknown where he claims to be an adventure ( be it always on someone else's dime) and archaeologist . Or his misnamed show Destination Truth, which was pure BS! In this he is playing the part of narrator for the two men with more money then brains who go looking for relics of Knights Templar. Like most things where Josh is involved if anything is found the likely hood of it being real, is unlikely!

I agree with many, boring and......,.
terrijsmith-7454426 March 2024
I don't care about two bored rich guys lives who boast about their self grandiose quest. I am interested in the relics. I also agree that the authenticated relics should be shared with all. Was Josh in need of money? I quit watching after 10 minutes. It is sad to see valuable found historical relics be documented by two uneducated and uninteresting and extremely bland guys with no personality talk about interesting and highly sought for treasures that people have searched for centuries. At least Josh made sure in his shows that he had credible, educated scholars to validate. And one reviewer said they wouldn't have them authenticated. Us that true?
