Peter states his happiness in the 1700's he's a couple of hundred years away from the films of Kevin Smith. Smith stated in his podcast: "Hollywood Babble-On" with occasional Family Guy guest Ralph Garman, that it comes from Smith's friend and cinemetographer Dave Klein on the commentary of Clerks: The Animated Series said some disparaging things against Family Guy. MacFarlane has made fun of Kevin Smith several more times.

Despite the legend that Miles "Chatterbox" Musket founded the city of Quahog back in colonial times, it is shown that Peter's ancestor, Griffin Peterson, is the actual founder after he is exiled by King Stewart the III because the king desired Griffin's bride-to-be, Lady Redbush.
