Engaging and Heartfelt
12 May 2009 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

This film captures the difficulty a family faces because of sexual stereotypes, cultural & familial expectations, and homophobia.

A son tries to piece together the life and death of his mother, Virginia, and to get to know his father.

By reading her diary, we see how lives are torn apart and ruined because of the AIDS epidemic.

Themes of moral majority and people's homophobia during the 1980's are explored as the underlying cause of the US government's slow reaction to fighting and educating the population on HIV/AIDS.

The characters' experience and backgrounds demonstrate the popular opinions of the time.

This film is heartfelt and very engaging, a story that definitely needed to be told.
