Paramount Pictures Rango took top honors as the Best Animated Feature at the 39th Annual Annie Awards, Saturday, February 4, at UCLA's Royce Hall. With the expanded list of categories from 25 to 28, and the addition of two new categories - Editing and Best Animated Special Production - this year's show honored more nominees than in the past. The newly created 'Member's Favorite' award voted on by the entire Asifa-Hollywood community also went to Rango.

It’s likely you’ve heard-of but never seen this early seventies road movie, which features nameless wanderers in a nominal cross-country race. It follows closely the tracks laid down a couple of years earlier by Easy Rider. But this is a more cerebral film than Hopper’s ramshackle classic, and less dated. The years when we couldn’t see Two-Lane Blacktop have been kind to it and now we can, we really should! Two-Lane Blacktop is available on Blu-Ray from January 23rd.
So, why was it unavailable for so long? Blame the lawyers! When films are made, pieces of music used on the soundtrack are licensed for that use but, back in the days before home video, these rights did not include ‘any other medium not invented yet’. So, if a film is to be released on DVD or Blu-Ray, the music has to be licensed all over again. »

Chicago – HBO long led the way when it came to TV on DVD releases, but they were never much for special features. I think the idea was that their programming spoke for itself. “It’s not TV, it’s HBO.” So why should they do what their competition does when it comes to deleted scenes, commentaries, etc.? It was a bit frustrating to read press releases for great TV shows and realize that they were once again bare-bones editions. Which makes the bonus-packed first season of “Boardwalk Empire” all that more amazing.
Blu-ray Rating: 5.0/5.0
There are two major pieces of bonus material on the first season Blu-ray release of “Boardwalk Empire,” which recently hit store shelves — enhanced viewing on all 12 episodes and six audio commentaries with some of the most talented people to ever make television, including Steve Buscemi, Cfca Award Winner Michael Shannon, Michael Kenneth Williams, and Terence Winter. »
