IMDbTV Pick: Showtime's "Penny Dreadful"

The subtle trick Showtime's "Penny Dreadful is that it is far less about the blood, gore and the specter of gruesome death than the sharp pain and exhilarating pleasure of living, and the terror of feeling alone even in close company. Read our review in the May Picks section.

Storyline

When a High School Spanish teacher, Will Schuester, becomes the director of the school's failing Glee club, New Directions, he hopes to be able to rejuvenate it. The club competes in the choir competition circuit. It's been called "a High School Musical for adults", the series follows the club and its mixture of oddball members as they try and restore it to its former glory. It is a musical comedy in which the eager and ambitious students not only compete to win the Nationals, but also have to deal with the tough and cruel realities of their school, McKinley High. At the same time, Will is trying to rejuvenate his failing love life whilst preventing the school's cheer leading coach Sue Sylvester from sabotaging the choir. Written by WellardRockard

Boring show for adolescents.
27 January 2012 | by (Singapore) – See all my reviews

Watched a few episode and the show simply bore the hell out of me.

The singing is atrocious, acting horrendous, it's a horrible mess with extremely poor story lines and scripts of kids jumping and singing terribly.

This show also has absolutely the worst fanatic fans, especially when they give all those annoying "ship" names and are extremely deluded about their favorite characters. Fancy girls worshiping Chris Cholfer, EWWW!

There are way better comedies out there, this one is a complete waste of time.
