IMDbTV Pick: Showtime's "Penny Dreadful"

The subtle trick Showtime's "Penny Dreadful is that it is far less about the blood, gore and the specter of gruesome death than the sharp pain and exhilarating pleasure of living, and the terror of feeling alone even in close company. Read our review in the May Picks section.

Trivia

During the opening monologue, Skelton tells several jokes about sleeping and snoring. Seagulls Gertrude and Heathcliffe appear for a gag. Red concludes the monologue with a pantomime of a man who lays out all of his clothes for the next morning so that he can catch a few more minutes of snooze, then sleepwalks during the night and puts the clothes all back in the closet and dresser. The Burgundy Street Singers perform "Let's Get Together." The title of the Silent Spot is "Pit Stop Mechanic" in which Red mimes a clumsy, slow pit stop mechanic and Jan Arvan plays the unfortunate race car driver. See more »
