The Fifth Estate Will Leak Its Way Onto Blu-ray And DVD After The Holidays

20 December 2013 11:01 PM, PST | | See recent Cinema Blend news »

The Fifth Estate, the story about Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, didn.t receive an extremely wide theatrical release and didn.t manage to make back its budget theatrically. There may have not been a ton of theatrical interest, but if The Fifth Estate was one you were wanting to catch, you won.t have too long to wait. The film is headed onto Blu-ray, DVD and Digital HD beginning on January 28, 2014. It might seem weird that director Bill Condon hopped from Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 1 and Part 2 to The Fifth Estate, but there are dots to connect the two projects. Condon has been a part of movies on both epic and down-to-earth scales, and he gained early successes with biopics like Gods and Monsters and Kinsey. This time around, he told a more contemporary story and hired it-man Benedict Cumberbatch to take on the tough task of playing Julian Assange. »

Margot Robbie Talks ‘Hot & Sweaty’ Love Scene With Leonardo DiCaprio

In the upcoming movie, ‘The Wolf Of Wall Street,’ Margot gets down with Leo in a very eccentric sex scene (hint: it involves a dog) and she’s now revealing the painstaking detail they had to go through to nail the steamy shot.

Margot Robbie and Leonardo DiCaprio having a sex scene sounds super-duper hot… on paper. Before The Wolf of Wall Street hits theaters (it’s out on Christmas), Margot has revealed that her love scene with Leo from the movie was anything but a fantasy between the sheets.

It was “the least romantic thing,” Margot says about her sex scene with Leo, which — spoiler alert — involves a pesky, barking dog. “The whole thing ended up being quite comical,” Margot told Page Six.

Watch The First Teaser Trailer For Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar

14 December 2013 8:18 AM, PST | | See recent news »

In what’s becoming one of the most anticipated movies of 2014, watch the teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar, starring Matthew McConaughy, Jessica Chastain, Anne Hathaway and Michael Caine.

Filled with footage of Chuck Yeager’s Bell X-1, the Mercury and Gemini space capsule missions, the Saturn V rocket liftoff to the Moon with the Apollo missions, and the Space Shuttle Atlantis, this superb first trailer really brings home the fact that at one time America’s Space Program was envied and unrivaled.  It’s chilling to think that we may never again see the likes of when we made frequent trips to the Moon. There was a time when we had the determination, ability and huge national pride of travelling to our nearest celestial neighbor.

Matthew McConaughey speaks the truth in his voice over – “We lost all that. Perhaps we’ve just forgotten. That we are still Pioneers »

Happy Birthday, Jackson Rathbone: A look back at his pre-'Twilight' TV roles

We all know Jackson Rathbone as the quiet, oddball vampire Jasper Hale in the "Twilight" Saga films. But before the actor starred in one of the biggest movie sensations ever, he started out on the small screen. In honor of his 29th birthday, take a look back at three of his biggest TV roles before landing his "Twilight" part.

Rathbone showed up in the Fox soap's third season as a teenager tangled up in the web of Kaitlin Cooper -- not the pony-riding Shailene Woodley version, the sexed-up Willa Holland version.

Here, Rathbone played another teenager, this time a privileged, "Gossip Girl"-style rich kid who falls in love with the new girl -- a scholarship kid -- at his fancy prep school.

Thg Sequel to Become the This Year's Biggest Success at the Us/Canada Box Office?

Catching Fire’ box office: To surpass Iron Man 3 in North America? (photo: Sam Claflin as Finnick Odair in ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’) Thanksgiving was celebrated this past week in the United States. Although the American economy remains in a seemingly never-ending rut, Lionsgate has much to be thankful for, financially speaking: on the weekend of November 29-December 1, 2013, Francis Lawrence’s $110-130 million-budgeted The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, starring Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, and Liam Hemsworth, added another $74.5 million from 4,163 North American locations according to studio estimates found at Box Office Mojo. Even if Lionsgate’s estimates are (once again) off by a couple of percentage points, that’s a remarkable hold for a sequel. In fact, Catching Fire was down only 53% compared to its first weekend, which included $25+ million from Thursday night and Friday midnight screenings. And let’s not forget that the Hunger Games sequel blew off »

'Catching Fire' and 'Frozen' Dominate Decent Post-Thanksgiving Friday

30 November 2013 11:51 AM, PST | Thompson on Hollywood | See recent Thompson on Hollywood news »

It's both feast and famine in the Top 10 this weekend, with two films, Lionsgate's "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" and Disney's animated "Frozen" (Buena Vista) accounting for most of the action yesterday. The $76 million total is impressive but falls short of the same day last year ($79 million) which had a much wider array of top films ("Breaking Dawn - Part 2," "Skyfall," "Lincoln," "Rise of the Guardians" and "Life of Pi" in the top 5). But below these two films was a big drop. "Catching Fire" and "Frozen" both look like they will top the previous record for the 5-day Thanksgiving holiday weekend ($82 million for "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone") by some margin. "Fire" grossed $31,250,000 for the day, down from $70 million for its combined Thursday night-Friday take last week, but still very strong. It is already at $253 million. With the aid of holiday playtime, this is $45 million ahead of what "The Hunger Games »

The company, which made the announcement Friday, also pointed to several contributors to the increase: paperless mobile ticket scanning, reserved seating expansion and new platforms apps,  new exhibitor partnerships and distribution deals.

Fandango also saw a 13% increase in monthly visits to its site and mobile apps year over year.

Kellan Lutz has said that he turned down the role of Edward Cullen in The Twilight Saga.

The actor portrayed Emmett Cullen in the Twilight films, but recently revealed that he was originally approached for the leading part that Robert Pattinson ultimately played.

"The role [Edward Cullen] just didn't… I just didn't care to entertain it," Lutz told Access Hollywood Live. "I really wanted to play a happy role or no role for a little bit."

He went on to say: "I didn't care to audition for [the role of Edward] because he was a bit moody and emotionally challenged. But then I loved Emmett… I'm so blessed to have been able to play him."

Lutz also said that he would enjoy reuniting with the Twilight Saga cast if another sequel is ever produced.

Weekend Box Office: Thg Sequel Catching Fire Fails to Surpass Two Nolan-Directed Batman Movies (and More If Inflation Taken Into Account)

Catching Fire’ weekend box office: Record breaker with qualifiers — though a huge success all the same (photo: Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence in ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’) For the weekend of November 22-24, 2013, Lionsgate overestimated the domestic box office take of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire by nearly 2%. Doesn’t sound like much? What about $3 million? That figure can make a hell of a difference when we’re talking box office records. In fact, it can be the difference between a movie breaking and not breaking a box office record. All day Sunday heralded as the biggest 2D opening ever in the United States and Canada, the Francis Lawrence-directed Catching Fire actually opened below two movies: Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises (2012) and The Dark Knight (2008). And when inflation is taken into account, as it always should, the The Hunger Games sequel falls behind a couple of other titles as well. »

Hunger Games, Dr Who are hot, Adoration cold

24 November 2013 4:34 PM, PST | | See recent news »

Australian cinemagoers flocked to the latest edition of The Hunger Games and the Doctor Who anniversary special last weekend, but Adoration was unloved.

Box-office takings shot up to 72% to $20 million, thanks to the two newcomers and a reasonable hold by Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire hauled in $12.5 million, 34% bigger than the opening of the original and on par with the debut of The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn- Part 2.

The first Hunger Games wound up with $31.2 million so the sequel starring Jennifer Lawrence as feisty heroine Katniss Everdeen, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth and Philip Seymour Hoffman has an excellent chance of beating that, particularly with no new films targeting that demographic in the next few weeks.

Worldwide, the fantasy adventure directed by Francis Lawrence scored $US308 million last weekend, including $160.6 million in North America.

Weekend Report: 'Catching Fire' Burns Bright, Sets November Record

As expected, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire attracted nearly unprecedented crowds to movie theaters this weekend. The highly-anticipated sequel opened to $158.1 million, which is the best opening ever in the month of November. It's also the sixth-biggest opening on record, and ranks third all-time among 2D-only movies.Catching Fire's $158.1 million opening is a bit above the original Hunger Games, which surprised many when it opened over $152 million last March. It's also ahead of the three Twilight sequels that opened at the same time in November*all three wound up between $138.1 million and $142.8 million. Catching Fire's debut ranks behind The Avengers, Iron Man 3 and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, all of which had the added benefit of 3D ticket pricing. On Sunday, Lionsgate's estimate for the movie was $161.1 million, which would have set a new 2D-only record. When actuals were tallied, though, Catching Fire fell a »

Here is what the top ten looks like, as of this morning: Title Opening 1. Marvel’s The Avengers $207.4 2. Iron Man 3 $174.1 3. Harry Potter Deathly Hallows 2 $169.1 4. Catching Fire $161.1 5.
