This Week on DVD: Avatar, Crazy Heart, The Lovely Bones

20 April 2010 9:12 AM, PDT | FilmJunk | See recent FilmJunk news »

We might be jumping the gun a bit here today, but clearly Avatar is the biggest DVD and Blu-ray release of the week -- even if it doesn't actually hit stores until Earth Day (Thursday). I wonder how many people will bring it home and wonder why they aren't seeing it in three-dimensions? Other major releases include Crazy Heart (which Jeff Bridges just won the Oscar for), Peter Jackson's much maligned The Lovely Bones, British crime drama 44 Inch Chest, and Peacock starring Cillian Murphy and Ellen Page. On Blu, we have Steven Spielberg's Minority Report, The Basketball Diaries, and the Kino release of Battleship Potemkin. Do you see anything worth buying or renting this week? Avatar [1] (on Apr. 22nd) (+ Blu-ray [2]) The Lovely Bones [3] (+ Blu-ray [4]) Crazy Heart [5] (+ Blu-ray [6]) 44 Inch Chest [7] (+ Blu-ray [8]) Peacock [9] The Young Victoria [10] (+ Blu-ray [11]) Summer Hours: Criterion Collection [12] (+ Blu-ray [13]) Vivre sa vie: Criterion Collection [14] (+ Blu-ray »

Exclusive Video: Cheech & Chong Tell You to Hey Watch This

19 April 2010 11:44 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

There is no question about it ... Cheech & Chong are comedy legends! The pot-smoking duo began their career as stand-up comics in the early '70s and gained attention for a string of popular comedy albums, which featured hit songs like "Basketball Jones." However, it was their feature film debut in '1978s Up In Smoke that made them icons to stoners all around the world. The two broke up in the mid '80s and with rumors of bad blood between the former friends; fans thought that they would never see they'd see the dynamic duo of dope together again. Chances started to look even slimmer in 2003 when Tommy was unjustly arrested and incarcerated for "conspiring to distribute drug paraphernalia," but upon his release in 2004 rumors started to fly about the two comedians finally reuniting. In 2008, the team publicly announced that they would be reuniting for an upcoming tour, titled »

Cheech Marin on Machete

7 April 2010 11:58 AM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Developed out of a rather unusual circumstance, the action-thriller Machete, from directors Robert Rodriguez and Ethan Maniquis, started off as a trailer in the Rodriguez/Tarantino double-feature Grindhouse and, due to demand from fans, has now become a full-length film.

About a renegade former Mexican Federale (Danny Trejo) who roams the cities, towns and streets of Texas looking for work after a shakedown from a drug lord (Steven Seagal), Machete promises a high body count with a cast that includes Robert DeNiro, Michelle Rodriguez, Jessica Alba, Lindsay Lohan, Jeff Fahey, Don Johnson and Cheech Marin, as Padre Benito del Toro.

While at the press day for Cheech & Chong’s Hey Watch This, due out on DVD on April 20th and for which we’ll have more on later, Cheech Marin talked a bit about his involvement with Machete.

Q: What is your body count in Machete?

Cheech: I don’t know yet. »

Cheech & Chong Confirm that 'Up in Smoke 2' is on the Way

20 February 2010 4:31 AM, PST | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

I received an email from a reader named Brandon tonight linking to a YouTube interview with legendary stoners Cheech and Chong talking about all things geek, movies, and, well, Cheech and Chong. But at one point (about 1:02 in) they talk briefly about what they've got coming up for movies and Chong says there's three things: a concert movie, out on 4/20, called Hey Watch This! (pre-order on Amazon); an animated feature, "a bunch of those" Chong says (not just one movie), but the first one will get released "sometime after 4/20"; and lastly, they reveal that "we're also working on a movie movie, Up in Smoke 2." Hell yes! They both go on to joke that they're going to call the sequel "Avatar 2: Escape from Guantanamo," which doesn't really make sense, but whatever. The big news coming from this interview is that their are a "bunch" of animated movies »
