The sound and rotation of the Weequay pirate ship is evocative of 1950s-era ideas of UFOs, like those seen in Earth vs. the Flying Saucers (1956). Retro-saucer ships have been part of the prequel concept art since Episode I - either as Trade Federation craft or most recently as Alderaanian vessels - but have not made it to the screen until now. Quotes

Anakin Skywalker: I still don't get it.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Get what?
Anakin Skywalker: How a buch of drunken pirates managed to catch Dooku when we couldn't.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Maybe there's a lesson to be learned here.
Anakin Skywalker: [sighs] I still don't get it.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: It's to remind us to be humble and never too proud to accept a gift when it comes our way.
