In your arms

We are introduced to a somewhat middle class family living in a small French town. Louis has found out he was adopted and he is curious to find out his biological mother. As it happens, she has been living nearby, the owner of a small flower shop. Solange, the mother, has changed her name, trying to hide in her new identity trying to forget the tragedy of her life that triggered her giving up Louis for adoption.

Solange's attitude toward the son she never knew is not exactly a loving one. She rejects all of Louis attempts to get closer to her. In order to stay close to her, Louis has gone to a small hotel that overlooks her shop where he spies on her. Helped by Clementine, the young woman that works in the inn, Louis sets out to get Solange's acceptance. When his adoptive mother, Adrienne, shows up, Louis must reconcile his loyalties toward a woman that has given him everything without asking anything in return.

This is the first feature by Hubert Gillet, an actor turned director. M. Gillet co-wrote the material with Anna Da Palma, and even the star of the film, Michelle Leroque is given credit for helping with the dialog. This film's subject has been done before. The creators wanted perhaps to give their story a different take on the situation as Solange shows no maternal feelings towards a son she had under extenuating circumstances and must face a new reality in her life.

The excellent Michelle Leroque plays Solange with intelligence and dignity. Martin Loizillon shows promise as Louis. He gives an interesting performance as the son in search for a mother that abandoned him. Catherine Mouchet is seen as Adrianne, the adoptive mother. Lola Naymark has some good moments as Clementine.
