10 Actors Who Rejected Marvel Superhero Roles

11 September 2017 12:49 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Marvel movies are big business, from the Avengers franchise and all of the interconnected heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on screens both big and small, to Fox's ever-expanding world of the X-Men and Deadpool, to the Sony steered Spider-man movies, going all the way back to Sam Raimi's original trilogy. But that doesn't mean every big name actor and A list talent in Hollywood wants to be associated with these characters. Some heavyweight actors have straight up said no way when Marvel came knocking. So, who would do such a thing?

Since becoming its own studio, which was later acquired by Disney in one of the biggest studio deals this side of Lucasfilm, Marvel has had no problem attracting top-tier A-list talent to its roster; the talent who commands major ticket grosses and critical acclaim alike. Who doesn't want to suit up as a one of Marvel's Merry Mutants, »

How sci-fi went mainstream

Ryan Lambie Jul 7, 2017

To tie in with the Into The Unknown exhibition, on now at London's Barbican, we look at how sci-fi has become a major cultural force...

It's not always easy being geeky. The celebrated genre writer Ray Bradbury knew this all too well; as a kid growing up in the 1920s and 30s, he was intoxicated by all things otherworldly and imaginative: classic horror movies, pulp sci-fi stories about Mars, comic strips detailing the exploits of Buck Rogers. Eventually, Bradbury's peers teased him mercilessly, until, in a bid to fit in, he ripped his Buck Rogers comics to shreds. But far from helping the young Bradbury draw a line under his obsessions, the destruction of his beloved comics left him feeling unhappy and soulless.

Star Trek Discovery Announces Premiere Date

19 June 2017 1:00 PM, PDT | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

Gene Roddenberry's original Star Trek television series (Tos) debuted on Thursday, September 8, 1966 via NBC. Roddenberry, a TV writer of Westerns (primarily) during the 1950s, pitched the show as a cross between Gulliver's Travels and Wagon Train... in space! Over the next 50 years there have been 13 films, 5 television series, and that animated thing in the early 70s starring the original NBC cast. J.J. Abrams famously rebooted the films in 2009, but there hasn't been a new TV series since Enterprise ended in 2005.

Star Trek Discovery, the newest TV franchise, was announced in November 2015 and would appear exclusively on CBS All Access, the stand-alone network streaming service. Someday. Maybe. We hope.

Jane the Virgin Season 3 Episode 12 Review: Chapter Fifty-Six

21 February 2017 1:14 AM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

Emotional wounds can manifest in different ways.

On Jane the Virgin Season 3 Episode 12, Jane started having panic attacks as she prematurely quit her job and ran into Michael's old colleague/friend. But as we learned, these panic attacks are nothing new.

Elsewhere in the episode, Petra and Rafael dealt with the fallout from Scott's newly discovered corpse, and Rogelio went on an apology tour.

Even though we are two episodes into the three-year time jump, I'm still adjusting to all the new developments. My biggest worry is still the display of the grieving process.

Thankfully we got more insight into the aftermath of Michael's death, but I can't help but feel a tad disconnected from Jane's journey over the last three years. Skipping over these formative years leaves a lot of unanswered questions about Jane's mindset.

I don't want to miss a single step of Jane's growth.

Sony Pictures has set a January 26, 2018 release date for their family-friendly adventure sequel Goosebumps 2. As of now, the sequel has no direct competition on its new release date, but it will be sandwiched between a few heavy hitters in the early months of 2018. Opening a few weeks earlier on January 12, 2018 is Sony's Bad Boys For Life, 20th Century Fox's The Maze Runner: Death Cure and Paramount's Sherlock Gnomes. Opening on February 2, 2018 is Sony's Slenderman, with Universal's Fifty Shades Freed and 20th Century Fox's Predator following on February 9, 2018.

Exhibitor Relations broke the release date news but no further details have been released at this time. Back in April, we reported that Rob Letterman, who directed the original Goosebumps, is returning to the helm, with original writer Darren Lemke coming aboard to write the sequel script. Jack Black, who starred as author R.L. Stine in the original Goosebumps adaptation, is expected to reprise his role, »
