Worst 20 Films of 2011 – Season of the Witch, Red Riding Hood & More!

31 December 2011 5:11 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Having spent the last year sat in screening rooms and cinemas watching over 200 of 2011′s cinematic offerings, it stands to reason that I’m going to have to sit through a fair share of duds. As I had seen the vast majority of the key Oscar plays before November, I spent the latter part of the year dedicating myself to seeking out the worst, most lowest common denominator fare ripe for a skewering, and with these twenty dreadful pictures, we have what are, in my opinion, the 20 biggest train wrecks of 2011. Note that Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star is still awaiting worldwide DVD release and didn’t get distribution in the U.K., so that’s one that I was forced to avoid, but I’m assured that it’s irredeemably horrible nevertheless. Anyway, on with the list…

Skip or Double Dip? - 'The Expendables' and Three Trilogies: 'Dragon Tattoo,' 'Underworld' and 'Misson: Impossible'

30 December 2011 1:30 PM, PST | Movies.com | See recent Movies.com news »

There is a chain of buzzwords—collector's edition, anniversary set, director's cut, unrated cut, extended version, digitally remastered, Digibook, etc.—that studios slap on DVD and Blu-ray cases to tempt you to buy the same movies over and over again. Some are worth the upgrade, but many of those double dips are just the studio returning to the well one too many times. Read on and decide if you want to skip or double dip this month. The Expendables: Extended Director's Cut Sylvester Stallone muscled together cinema's favorite action stars of the past few decades for this explosive ensemble picture, including Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, Randy Couture, Steve Austin, Terry Crews and even a cameo by...

27 December 2011 1:53 PM, PST | JoBlo.com | See recent JoBlo news »

Couple things you maybe didn't realize about Sylvester Stallone: he's in phenomenal condition for a 65-year-old dude, and those shoulder tattoos in The Expendables weren't temporary. Both of those things are on display in the above snap from Bullet To The Head, his action-thriller that arrives on April 13 in an attempt to supply you with a Sly fix until The Expendables 2 shoots up the screen on August 17. The movie comes from director/tough-guy expert Walter Hill (48 Hrs., The Warriors) and »

The Expendables: Director’S Cut Blu-ray Review

26 December 2011 6:00 AM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

When The Expendables dropped last year, many felt that—while Sylvester Stallone’s heart was in the right placed—the film failed to live up to expectations (there’s also a strong, vocal minority that love the film, and we should all just go ahead and assume now that they’re going to take issue with this statement).  Surprisingly enough, one of these people seems to be…Sylvester Stallone, who introduces the new Director’s Cut of The Expendables by saying, “I liked the theatrical version, but I love this (version)”.  Have improvements been made?  Is the film really and truly better?  And how can one tell, if one immediately forgot the first film almost as soon as they’d seen it?  Find out in my review of The Expendables: Director’s Cut, after the jump. A whole bunch of people thought that The Expendables sucked.  A whole bunch. »
