Sylvester Stallone is assembling an all-star cast for his latest adventure film, The Expendables. Already he lined up Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Forest Whitaker and Randy Couture as the team of mercenaries hired to dethrone a dictator. The film has been written and will be directed by Stallone with production slated to begin in March for a 2010 release. While Lionsgate will distribute in the UK, no word on who will release this in the states.
Jo Blo reports that Stallone is trying to entice his Demolition Man co-star Sandra Bullock to join in on the fun. She would play “a government agent (paired up with Whitaker) on the hunt for Stallone's crew of hired guns. Delicious.”
Moviehole unearthed character breakdowns from the flick, including verification/speculation as to which actors are in the roles. The site says the film has been described as "Clear and Present Danger on acid. »

If the news already released (mainly casting in nature) for Sylvester Stallone’s upcoming action flick The Expendables hasn’t got you excited enough already, we have another piece of casting news to fuel the fire.
Now it’s not set in stone but it appears that Sandra Bullock may be the next one to jump aboard the cast, as Stallone is “pursuing her for the project.” If she signs on the dotted line she will join already announced cast members Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Forest Whitaker, Randy Couture and of course Stallone himself (who’s also writer and director).
If you need a little reminder, The Expendables is about a group of mercenaries who are sent on a mission to South America to overthrow a dictator. Moviehole described the movie as shaping up to be like “‘Clear and Present Danger’ on acid…”
Sounds interesting (to say the least! »

Many of you may look upon Sylvester Stallone's upcoming action epic The Expendables as a lesser version of Quentin Tarantino's Ingloryhole Bastards. If so, you are wrong. For my money, The Expendables looks to be the more interesting of the two. After seeing the kick to the nuts that Stallone »

The Expendables is lining up to either be the best action flick of all time, or an epic failure the likes we haven't seen since Ishtar. Sylvester Stallone has lined up an all-star cast, including himself, Jason Statham, Jet Li, and Dolph Lundgren, but he is adding even more of his past action cohorts. The latest comes from Demoliton Man (one of my all-time favorite Sly flicks). Wesley Snipes is still dealing with personal issues, but how about Stallone's partner, Sandra Bullock? The rumor coming from JoBlo.com is that Bullock is being pursued for a role in the movie, although it's not a guaranteed thing right now. Still, that's pretty exciting news. I think the actress owes her fanbase at least one more action flick after the run of high drama she's had; it's time for her to let her hair down and get bloodied up a bit, don't »
Will Sylvester Stallone's action flick The Expendables be a great movie... or the greatest movie? So far, Sly has lined up Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Forest Whitaker and Randy Couture for his tale of mercenaries on a mission to take down an evil dictator. Will he also be reuniting with his spunky (and still quite desirable) Demolition Man partner Sandra Bullock? That's what we've heard from someone who's worked on several Stallone projects, including this one. And while it's not »

So far, Sylvester Stallone's upcoming actioner The Expendables has fanboys geekgasming seeing as how the movie features Stallone, Jet Li, Jason Statham and Dolph goddamn Lundgren as mercenaries sent to South America to "handle" a dictator. However, as great as the cast is, there's one key element missing from it - hotties. Honestly, what self-respecting movie featuring four good, old-fashioned cinematic tough guys as bad ass mercenaries doesn't feature at least two, three or eight »

Stallone arrived in Brazil (Rio) yesterday, had lunch at a churrascaria (one of those meat places) and visited a favela. Tomorrow he’s coming to Sao Paulo, to visit some of the movie locations (there’s some talk about scenes here in the city and at the coast of Sao Paulo - the state, not the city). O2 Films, the same production company that made City of God and Blindness, is helping him and is in charge of the filming here. They expect to begin in March, right after carnival. Sp is dubbing for a small Caribbean island east of Cuba ruled by a dictator. Every single media outlet here is Crazy to get him to do an interview or something. People are following him on the streets, etc.Madonna is also in town, so the reporters and paparazzi are working overtime. And if you don’t know why he’s here… »
I’m sure you can all guess which movie took the top spot (just in case…. it’s The Dark Knight), and yes it’s predictably Twilight and Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince that are the second and third most searched.
But the rest of the list may not be as you might have thought. Here it is, in descending order:
25. The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
24. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009)
23. The Godfather (1972)
22. Star Trek (2009)
21. The Departed (2006)
20. Quantum of Solace (2008)
19. Dragonball (2009)
18. Wanted (2008)
17. Terminator Salvation (2009)
16. Cloverfield (2008)
15. Superbad (2008)
14. Into the Wild (2007)
13. Sex and the City (2008)
12. There Will Be Blood (2007)
11. The Incredible Hulk (2008)
10. Transformers (2007)
9. Juno (2007)
8. No Country for Old Men (2007)
6. Iron Man (2008)
5. The Expendables (2010)
4. TR2N (2011)
3. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)
2. Twilight (2008)
1. The Dark Knight (2008)
A few of the usual suspects are there with the top three spots already mentioned above, and other familiar »

The Internet Movie Database have announced the top 25 most searched movies of 2008, and the results aren’t as predictable as you would think. Yes, The Dark Knight, Twilight, and Harry Potter hold the top three spots (in that order) But what is the fourth most searched for film of 2008? Disney’s Tron sequel TR2N. Not bad for a film which exploded onto the scene in July with a surprise teaser trailer appearance at Comic Con. Another surprise is Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables, which somehow is #5 on the list, higher than movies like Iron Man or Indiana Jones.
A lot of 2007 Award winners also make appearances on the list: No Country for Old Men at #8, Juno at #9, and There Will Be Blood at #12. I am surprised to see Cloverfield all the way down at #16. You would think the film would have generated a »

This weeks Weekend Movie News Wrap Up features:
Keanu Reeves barely justified his hefty salary for The Day The Earth Stood Still. The Sci-Fi remake mustered a disappointing $33 million over the weekend. Not great for a $100 million plus film. It might barely limp to the century mark and the box office, but word of mouth isn’t great. By the time next weekend is over it may be lucky to have earned $50Mm in the U.S. - so this could be another financial disappointment for Fox.
Four Christmases should manage another $14 million bringing its total close to $90 million. Rival Christmas film Nothing Like The Holidays should muster about $3 million over the weekend. Looks like there wasn’t much festive cheer for that. »

The cast for Sylvester Stallone's next big action project, titled The Expendables, already features Stallone himself, Jason Statham, Jet Li, and Dolph Lundgren, but the script calls for a total of five mercenaries, so who is this fifth? None other than Ufc Heavyweight Champion Randy Couture, as Ain't It Cool News reports today. Apparently Stallone wants to give him "an excellent boost towards big screen action stardom," considering his last role was the direct-to-dvd Scorpion King 2, a big pile of shit if you ask me. This now rounds out the cast of mercenaries and puts the project on track to start shooting in March in Brazil. The Expendables will follow a team of "expendable" mercenaries on a mission to overthrow a South American dictator. The names of the five mercenaries are Hale Caesar, Kong Kao, Christmas, Barney Ross, and Gunnar. In addition to the casting scoop, Stallone revealed to »

I love the whole "guys on a mission" subgenre, so it's no small thrill that Sly Stallone is assembling his own Dirty Dozen-style flick filled with familiar faces. For Stallone's movie The Expendables (which he's also writing and directing), he's already rounded up action figures Jet Li, Jason Statham and Dolph Lundgren for a team of mercenaries on a mission to overthrow a malevolent South American dictator. Now according to AICN, he's added another guy who knows something about »

The Expendables just got a little more business power. As if the Sylvester Stallone action movie, which will star the great man himself, Jason Statham, Jet Li and – God willing – Dolph Lundgren as mercenaries trying to take down a South American dictator, needs any help raking in the cash. Why, Empire alone is planning to see 90 times. On the opening day.But it can’t hurt to hook up with Planet Hollywood – and today, by enlisting the services of Planet Hollywood CEO, Robert Earl, as co-producer, Stallone has ensured that The Expendables will now be promoted relentlessly at all 20 Planet Hollywood sites across the globe. So expect to hear lots of, “Would you like some fries with your Jason’s Stat Ham?” when you visit any branch over the next year or so.Of course, Stallone’s association with Planet Hollywood and its founder Earl goes back many years to »
Happy Thanksgiving folks.

What's this? The most awesome news of the day so far. It is being reported that Sylvester Stallone and Dolph Lundgren are to reunite for a new movie, The Expendables, a new actioner that Stallone is making.
The news broke at the Las Vegas premiere of The Transporter 3.
Shooting kicks off in February 2009 in Costa Rica and Louisiana.
Stallone famously squared up to Lundgren in Rocky IV.
My pants have shrunk! »
It was just over two weeks ago when we reported that Sylvester Stallone is making his own badass action flick as a result of his not getting a role in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds (where it was long rumored he’d be the lead). Stallone thought he’d instead just make his own movie about a team of action stars and that’s exactly what he’s doing.
The movie is called The Expendables and the title references what this team of mercenaries is and why they get the missions they do - it also reflects back on a quote from Rambo: First Blood Part II where Rambo says he is “expendable” in reference to why he was chosen.

It used to be that putting Sylvester Stallone in a movie was big enough of a draw. You'd think teaming Sly with other action actors like Jet Lee or Jason Stathem would be more than enough for fans these days. The Expendables is really heating things up, however, but putting all three of those guys together, plus another added face from Stallone's glory days. Sly, who also wrote The Expendables, was caught by Review Nation on the red carpet for Transporter 3 where he talked very briefly about his upcoming action combo, which he described as a "homecoming of tough guys." Along with Lee, Stathem, and Stallone himself, the actor revealed that the studio is trying to get Dolph Lundgren on board with the film. Stallone and Lundgren faced off in Rocky IV, over twenty years ago. The Expendables features a team of mercenaries sent to overthrow an evil dictator. »
(from top left) New Terminator Salvation poster, Criterion logo, Whatever Works, Dolph Lundgren, I am Legend, He-Man, "Star Trek" comic, Tim Blake Nelson in The Incredible Hulk It's been a long time since there were enough stupid online stories to create a Rumor Mill Roundup, but thanks to fanboy excitement and a lack of stories to copy out of Variety and The Hollywood Reporter we have a fresh batch of inane items from around the Internet to dazzle the eye and illuminate the senses. Let's get started shall we... First off, Sony Pictures is handling the international distribution of Terminator Salvation and as a coming out prize they bring a Flash animated motion poster picturing the destruction of Los Angeles as it turns into the robotic face of a Terminator. You think that is just a coincidence? Guess again. Check it out here. Rumor: Sylvester Stallone hints at the possibility »

The day we announced that Sylvester Stallone was making The Expendables, a veritable "homecoming of tough guys" as Stallone himself now calls it, we thought it couldn't get any better than that - Jason Statham, Jet Li, and Stallone all starring together in an action extravaganza. Besides mentioning at one point that Forest Whitaker might also join the cast, Stallone also just told Review Nation that they're getting close to securing Dolph Lundgren for the film as well. You've got to be kidding me?! If only Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jean Claude Van Damme were to join, we'd have the greatest action movie cast assembled in cinematic history! Now we've just got to figure out what The Expendables is about... Unlike Van Damme, though, Lundgren still is starring in crappy action movies like Universal Soldier III. He also starred alongside of Stallone in Rocky IV previously. I don't really know if »
