Review: USA's 'Satisfaction' & 'Rush' & FX's 'Married' & 'Youre the Worst'

17 July 2014 6:00 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Four new scripted shows debut tonight: two dramas on USA ("Rush" at 9, "Satisfaction" at 10), two comedies on FX ("Married" at 10, "You're the Worst" at 10:30). I loved none of them, but found enough interesting ideas, and enough overlap between several of them, to consider some kind of combined review. I could, for instance, have doubled up "Rush" and "Satisfaction" and mused for a bit about the state of the USA brand as it moves further away from the "blue skies" formula of "Burn Notice" and other shows, and how "Rush" feels like an attempt to do a darker version of one of those blue skies shows (it's "Royal Pains" meets "Ray Donovan"), while "Satisfaction" is a wild swing in a completely different direction. Or I could have written about the very different approaches that "Satisfaction" and "Married" take to the idea of marriages curdling from over-familiarity and a lack of sex. »

Steven Soderbergh, David Gordon Green collaborate on Amazon's final 2014 pilot

7 July 2014 6:53 AM, PDT | EW - Inside TV | See recent EW.com - Inside TV news »

Clearly, “retirement” means something else in Soderberghland.

Though the Academy Award-winning director has stuck to his promise to stop directing feature films since 2012 (when he shot Behind the Candelabra), Soderbergh has hardly stopped making art in the intervening years. Recent projects include directing Cinemax’s 10-episode period drama The Knick (premiering this summer), helming an Off-Broadway play starring Chloe Grace Moretz, editing together a mashup of Hitchcock’s Psycho and Gus Van Sant’s Psycho, executive producing a TV series based on his 2009 indie film The Girlfriend Experience for Starz—and, now, overseeing another TV show, this time for Amazon. »

Royal Pains: Season Six Ratings

22 June 2014 11:02 PM, PDT | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

The ratings for Royal Pains have been going down for awhile. Will they continue to fall or will they start to rebound this summer? Will this USA show be cancelled after six years or, will it be renewed for a seventh season instead? Stay tuned to find out.

Royal Pains follows the continuing adventures of a former ER doctor (Mark Feuerstein) from New York who, along with his younger brother (Paulo Costanzo), runs a concierge doctor business in The Hamptons. The show's cast includes Reshma Shetty, Brooke D'Orsay, Campbell Scott, and Ben Shenkman.

The ratings are typically the best indication of a show's chances of staying on the air. The higher the ratings, the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available.

Hot Mugshot Guy nudes leak, Ethan Hawke credits gay media with drop in homophobia, how The Sims accidentally led the way with gay representation in video games

Remember Hot Mugshot Guy Jeremy Meeks? Well, his alleged nude photos have leaked online. Now since the crotch shots are completely separate from the head shots, I don’t know how you can prove they’re him, but if they are, he’s a hot below the waist as he is above the shoulders.

Texas Gop Chairman Steve Munisteri says he’s against the gay reparative therapy endorsed in the state platform, and believes most Texans are too, but the party platform is written by a committee with some strange parliamentary rules. “It’s false to represent that each one of those platform planks necessarily represents the view of the majority view of either the majority of the delegates let alone a majority of Republicans. »

Royal Pains fans may have been dismayed when Dr. Hank quit HankMed (again!) in the Season 5 finale to travel the world with Boris as his personal physician. However, star Mark Feuerstein couldn't have been happier about his character's decision — particularly since it meant traveling to Nice, Monte Carlo and Saint-Tropez to film the new season of the USA series, which premieres Tuesday at 9/8c.

"I have friends who followed the Grateful Dead in college and they were so grateful that this band had brought them to these parts of the country that they never would have been to. Well, if that were true for them, then I have been the ultimate Deadhead in getting to follow this show around to all these incredible locations," Feuerstein tells TVGuide.com of his jet-setting schedule.

Review: NBC's 'The Night Shift' brought down by its obnoxious doctor hero

27 May 2014 9:00 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Years ago at the Ledger, I did an occasional feature called "A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words" where, in lieu of writing a review of some terrible show or TV-movie, I would simply select a publicity still that in some way captured its terribleness, thus allowing me to devote my time to writing about something better. With NBC's new hospital drama "The Night Shift" (it premieres tonight at 10), I was sorely tempted to revive that tradition because... well, look at that picture attached to this review. That is perhaps the single most terrible publicity photo I have ever seen for a television show. Worse than anything associated with "The Secret Diary of Desmond Pfeiffer," worse than the "girls club" image that made its stars look like they were appearing on the cover of a pornographic VHS tape. It's hilarious because most of the actors were not only clearly Photoshopped »
