The end credits begin with the phrase "In loving memory of Antonie Kamerling". Kamerling portrayed the character Hero in the original movie and the series. He took his own life in 2010, during pre-production of All Stars 2.
The continuity of All stars: De serie (1999) was mostly ignored for this movie. Willem, who died during the series, is a living character again. Johnny and Bram, who had been recast during the series run, were played by Daniël Boissevain and Danny de Munk again. The strongest connections to the continuity of the series are Bram's background as a lawyer and the presence of the character of Nemo.
The character of Hero was supposed to be present in the movie. In the end, he would die and then in the final scene appear reincarnated as a street musician. After the suicide of Antonie Kamerling Hero's role in the story was taken over by Nemo, who had been introduced in the series as Hero's brother. Hero's absence is explained by him being lost in the Himalaya for over a year.
