While animated sci-fi series “Rick and Morty” began as a hallucinatory “Back to the Future” riff, in its second season on Adult Swim it’s turned more Philip K. Dick in its trippy embrace of alternate realities and alien worlds. Sociopathic scientist Rick Sanchez enlists naive grandson Morty in a series of mind-bending, intergalactic adventures, putting their dysfunctional family in continuous peril.
For creators Justin Roiland (“Adventure Time” voice actor) and Dan Harmon (“Community” creator), the first season was all about the crazy inventions, while the second concentrated more on exploration. “We’re trying to make sure that we never paint ourselves into a corner conquering the nihilism of an infinite universe,” said Harmon.
The comedy is both smart and low-brow with scattered sci-fi and other pop cultural references along with plenty of sex and scatological humor.
The flat animation style, meanwhile, evokes both “The Simpsons” and “The Ren & Stimpy Show. »

In an adventure that ain’t for the little kiddies, (unless you have super cool parents, then whatever), you’ll meet Gert—a six year old girl who has been stuck in the magical world of Fairyland for thirty years and will hack and slash her way through anything to find her way back home. Join Gert and her giant battle-axe on a delightfully blood soaked journey to see who will survive the girl who hates Fairyland.

Cartoon Network has given a greenlight to “Mighty Magiswords,” a full-length linear television show developed as a series of interactive short videos on the Cartoon Network Anything app. The linear series is the first project to be developed as a digital-first property by Cartoon Network, then migrate to the company’s linear cable channel.
“Mighty Magiswords” debuted last year as a series of 15-second interactive videos on Cartoon Network Anything. Created by Kyle A. Carrozza, “Mighty Magiswords” tells the story of a brother-sister warrior team who rely on their collection of swords — cheeseburger sword, dolphin sword and mummy sword among them — to complete tasks during their comic adventures.
Alongside the upcoming linear series, Cartoon Network will debut more than 400 pieces of original content across various platforms. That content will include shorts, vlogs and web and mobile games, as well as interactive narratives. Cartoon Network is also developing proprietary technology that will allow fans of the series to collect and trade the various swords.
“We actually asked Kyle to slow-play this, and to start developing this for a series down the line, but in a very different way,” said Rob Sorcher, chief content officer, Cartoon Network. “This started as a 15 second video where you could choose your magisword. So he developed this by doing iterations that developed this by doing iterations that were built upon that.”
The interactive element of the digital programming creates an experience that allows viewers to shape the direction of the narrative.
By developing the series first for digital, Cartoon Network was able to achieve proof of concept and gather creative feedback that aided in the development process. Several project are now being developed in a similar way.
“Rather than developing this on paper and holding the bar high for a series, we said, ‘No, let’s just get started,'” Sorcher said. “Let’s start going out in other platforms and find a way that these characters and this world could be created in an interesting way and make it organic to that. That process got us today to the linear series.”
Cartoon Network will begin introducing “Mighy Magiswords” this summer through multiplatform content. The series is produced at Cartoon Network Studios in Los Angeles and is set to debut this fall. It joins a slate of original series at the network that includes “Adventure Time,” “The Powerpuff Girls,” “Teen Titans Go!,” “We Bare Bears,” “Clarence,” “Regular Show,” “The Amazing World of Gumball” and “Steven Universe.”

Apparently, Preacher’s Jesse never saw Spider-Man. So, unaware that with great power comes great responsibility, he let his “gift” get the better of him this week and, as a result, damn near shot someone without ever laying a finger on a gun. Who? How? Wait, what? Keep reading, and I’ll (do my best to) explain.

A new video has been published on YouTube by Warner Bros. (above) showcasing a mind-boggling amount of new content on its way to Lego Dimensions starting from September 30.
In case you missed it earlier in the week, it was reported that several new expansions and collaborations were in the works for the quintessential Lego game that would include the likes of Sonic The Hedgehog, Harry Potter and the Teen Titans as new characters. As it turns out, the report was true, but those three are just the tip of the iceberg – 16 new “entertainment properties” are in the works and due to be released from the Fall onward.

Lego Dimensions is about recreate a bunch of beloved film and games characters in blocky form as part of a Year 2 expansion, according to Press-Start (via VideoGamer). In line with a short teaser video released yesterday by Warner Bros. (above) featuring Batman rhetorically asking the camera “what took you so long?”, followed by a caption that reads “what happens next?”, it seems the publisher is gearing-up to announce something big on June 9.
So, what sorts of collaborations and crossovers can we expect to see as part of this so-called Year 2? A rather eclectic mix, it seems. Press-Start believes the likes of Sonic The Hedgehog, Harry Potter (which have been rumored before) and the Powerpuff Girls will be just some of the stars of the expansion.

When I reviewed Zootopia here at We Are Movie Geeks, I wrote”, the beautifully designed, brightly-hued Zootopia is breezier and bouncier than most. The animation work is dazzling, lovingly detailed without being overdone. I felt like I could reach out and pet these furry critters, especially in eye-popping 3D.” (read all of my review Here)
Now you can own Zootopia on Blu-ray thanks to Walt Disney Animation Studios!
Zootopia has broken records worldwide earning more than $900 million at the global box office to date. For those unfamiliar with Glover, he is a multi-talented man who has not only appeared in such hit movies and TV shows as Community, The Martian, Magic Mike Xxl and Adventure Time, and written for NBC’s 30 Rock, but also boasts a successful rap career under the stage name of Childish Gambino. Glover looks to use all of his aforementioned talents in Atlanta, as he stars in the show as the main character Earnest “Earn” Marks, an up-and-coming rapper, and also created the show and penned the script for the pilot. It never fails. The one day you were finally going to hit that all-you-can-eat donut buffet or start training for that 5K or sign up for spin classes once and for all -- no, really this time -- it rains. And it doesn't. Stop. Raining.
On those days, all you have to comfort you is that blank, black void, your old friend, your TV, beckoning you to spend the entire day in a whole new world. A world where it never rains and where Cheetos are always an arm's length away. Put on the coffee and just let it happen -- everything else can wait. You have bingeing to take care of.
What if in some magical world watching TV could scientifically improve your mood when your parade gets rained on? Well, put your Snuggie on, champ, because that world is the world you live in.

Is it ever possible to truly grow up? Adults will inevitably tell you there are moments when they feel like frauds -- mere children disguised as grown-ups. And maybe that's the reason there are so many children's television series with considerable crossover appeal. Animated or live-action, these shows may be marketed to kids, but they possess a certain mature quality that brings in an adult fan base too.
It's a challenge for the creative people who make TV for kids: How do you entertain the youngsters while keeping the tone sophisticated enough to prevent adults from bolting out of the room? Sometimes, a show can lean so far in the direction of amusing the parents that its "for kids" classification feels inadequate. These are the TV series that tend to fly straight over children's heads and right into the brains and hearts of would-be grown-ups.

Nobody wants to admit it, but the TV shows you watch as a kid help shape your personality as an adult. Sure, there are lots of other factors, like your friends, family, and siblings, but for kids who were allowed television time -- or sneak-watched while at a friend's house -- TV shows were a vital part of shaping your worldview. From "The Powerpuff Girls" kicking butt in Townsville to the magic of the "Wizards of Waverly Place," kids shows that are no longer on the air were downright fascinating. Well, most of them.
That isn't to say kids' shows today aren't just as awesome as the classics. There's always "Adventure Time's" brilliance or the galactic plot lines of "Star Wars Rebels," but nothing compares to watching Miley Cyrus pretend to be two different people with only a wig to tell "them" apart. Of course, child stars grow up, »
