I've seen worse...but not too often.
knightox11 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Basically four idiots who are sent into a military type exercise program by their employer to build physical fitness and teamwork decide to screw off. They come across three cursed ghosts of witches who are enslaved to their undead, cruel scarecrow father. Back in olden times the 3 ghosts' mother was hanged as a witch and then their sleaze bag dad promptly started raping them. They finally stabbed him with a butcher knife and hung him out in the corn fields as a scarecrow. Unfortunately before he died he cursed them for all eternity to be stuck with him there. After being bound on the farm for centuries the three witches raised his dead spirit back into his scarecrow corpse and he told them to get young male victims as substitutes to escape their hellacious situation. And that's what they do pretty easily because, like I said, these guys are IDIOTS. The plot sounds decent enough however...the actors couldn't act (there's only 1 pretty actress and she couldn't either), the effects certainly weren't special, the plot was predictable (the ending made no sense) and there were a lot of holes in it. The first few minutes looked really good but oh well. Maybe after a 6-pack this flick could be 5 stars out of 10 but that's a "maybe"...On second thought, no it wouldn't.

Shockingly AWFUL!

Warning: Spoilers
This film had, in my mind, the potential to be great, epic even as a horror. Yet, it was not. I honestly feel as though I may have just wasted an hour and a half of my life. The beginning seemed to be going well (all five minutes of it), even though I noticed a few things that seemed a bit odd - the acting, the language used for the era it was set, etc. But once we get to the four main characters, it seriously goes downhill from there. The acting is not great - not terrible, but really not worthy of a produced film; in fact I would it is laughable. I spent a lot of time in stitches at it, as did my house-mate who could not believe this was actually a film. The supposed 'trauma' of the three sisters seems to be missing (well, there is a hint at it, but it's pretty poor), and the hint at abuse from the father begun quite believable, until they tried acting again. I'd also like to know how sisters who have never moved from the farm, or ever even been anywhere else in the country, seem to have different accents. One of which sounds Scottish... This film basically has ridiculous lines, conclusions that seem to be drawn from nowhere, no conclusions drawn when there should be some, blood that honestly looks like it came from a child's paint set, gore that is laughable rather than scary, annoying symbols popping up every now and then for the sake of it, strange flashbacks that had potential to be good but were not, music that sounds as though it's again come from a child's play organ ... need I go on? I won't even bother you with the ending - I'd be surprised if anyone makes it that far through, I have no idea why I did really?! Do not bother watching this film. You will regret it. It makes me angry thinking about it, and that it was even released for public viewing!

A pile of Nonsense
johnny_depp_lover014 March 2011
Warning: Spoilers
'The Scar Crow' started out promisingly, if a little predictably. Four guys are sent off on a team-building exercise as part of a military course, but seem more interested in drinking and having fun, turning it into an excursion that has a definite 'stag do' feel to it. Soon enough they find a pub and come across three rather strange young ladies.

So far, so good. We know the three women are witches, cursed by their father. However, this is when everything starts going wrong for the guys (and the film itself).

First of all, the father is not a witch and yet seems to know a lot about curses. This could be because his wife was allegedly a witch, as are his daughters, but this seems very unlikely. The more we see of the three daughters, the more it is evident that they couldn't act their way out of a paper bag. The action seems a little confused and muddled, with flashbacks to their past, overlaid by a bewildering and quite frankly unnecessary array of 'witchy' images.

One of the four men, 'Joe', disappears very early on after getting a rather sensitive area of his body ripped off. This moment has the potential to be very scary, instead it ends up looking ridiculous. His friends don't seem to care what has happened to him as they are more interested in hooking up with the three girls.

I don't think I can go into great detail, as I found myself drifting off several times throughout, yet suffice to say what I did see either had me laughing at the screen or sinking my head into my hands at the utter absurdity of it all.

In no way did it draw me in or frighten me. The only part that was vaguely scary (apart from the incident with Joe), was when the Scar Crow (aka the three girl's daddy) lurches out of the dark and places a hand on his youngest daughter's shoulder. Fair play... that part did make me jump. But then the camera stays on the two of them as the daughter, in a very bored and unimpressed manner, simply removes the hand and wanders off. Clearly left at a bit of a loss, the Scar Crow slowly edges back into the bushes. The entire scene was so pointless I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

The film dribbles on in this manner, featuring buckets of incredibly fake-looking blood, a lot of gore, atrocious acting from everyone involved and a bit of a jaunt around the woods where the surviving two guys finally get a clue and realise there's something 'a little off' about their new friends, mainly after finding 'Joe' dismembered and scattered around the forest floor.

The film ends in a predictably ridiculous manner as the one surviving character makes out with his girlfriend, only to have her inexplicably turn into the Scar Crow and cut his throat.

Overall... it is not scary, the acting is terrible and it was a waste of two-hours of my life.

Worst film I've ever seen....
lonely-inside3 August 2011
This film wasn't worth watching. I was bored within 2 minutes of the film starting. The storyline was OK, but the acting was terrible and so were the effects. I mean, it was meant to be a horror and I wasn't scared at any point during the film. If anything, this film was disturbing. It was as if some guys just got drunk and filmed one of there fantasies, because that's what it seemed like. My dreams are better than that movie! I don't even know why Virgin Media had it on the movie list! This film was a waste of my time. I can't believe it even got released. Don't watch it, you'll only regret it. I only watched it because the description was good.

Absolutely Terrible!
r-oxley5 October 2012
I'll get straight to the point and wont beat around the bush ... this is the worst film I have ever seen in my entire life! I was bored within the first 2 minutes of the film and feel ashamed that I have spent 2 hours of my life .. THAT I'LL NEVER GET BACK.. watching this poor excuse of a "HORROR" film! The budget of this film was probably around £12.50 and it appears as though they grabbed anyone off the street to play the main characters in this film! I'm utterly shocked that this film was allowed to be released for the public to view it.

Unless you are into stupid story lines, terrible acting and blood that's probably just ketchup... DO NOT WATCH IT!

This is a Low budget movie
nicci19726 January 2019
Come on ppl, lighten up. Yes theacting is terrible and the camera work is juvenile but rate it for what it is - low budget. The plot was interesting and i think it was written well. This is not a 1 movie. 1 movies make no sense, show boom mikes, don't have a definitive plot and end with you saying, whoa at the sheer mess of it. This movie wasn't like that.

Not that bad a movie
mippin11 January 2020
I guess that most the other reviewers are millennial's that were programed at what passes for a school these days to hate just about everything unless it makes them feel good. They really need to go find their safe place and not watch any more movies. Now I don't think this is a great movie but it is watchable. I really didn't care for any of the characters and that is where this movie falls short with me.

Sisters of darkness awake!
parry_na6 April 2023
This is the debut film for Peter Benson and Andy Thompson, and is infused with enough directorial touches to keep things entertaining.

It isn't perfect. The male characters are not only grotesque but one-note grotesque. Endless sex-bragging and leery pub jokes ensure that none of them will win the sympathy of the audience. The supposed good guy of the group, for example, is more than happy to betray his partner for a quick fumble in the hay. It's difficult to know how the audience is supposed to react to these people - are they intended to be funny? Is the intention that we long for their death? Are they supposed to represent real people?

This is a shame because with a lightness of touch sadly missing, they might have been people we believe in, which would have improved things. As it is, I enjoyed this as a slightly unusual hybrid combining a Hammer-esque horror feel in places with the video nasties of the '80s. The gore is impressive and convincing for a low-budget venture such as this.

The three female characters are rather better realised and well-played. The temptation could have been to overact, but that's not the case here. There are some mild sex scenes which curiously fail to carry any kind of erotic charge. My score is 6 out of 10.
