The Passion of the Booth!
25 March 2010 | by (Ambrosia) – See all my reviews

While Barbie is away, Bill has moved next door, a situation which does not please Eddie in the slightest. Joan gives him better food for one thing.

Unlikely as it may seem, Eddie has acquired an admirer - sexy hairdresser Sandra ( Deirdre Costello ). She wears no underwear and has a reputation for being 'man mad' - Jacko claims she even fancies him! When she invites him back to the shop one afternoon to help out with the 'stock taking', he jumps at the chance. He tells Joan he is going out to play in a darts match. But Bill tags along, determined to wreck the tryst...

Along with Andrea Lawrence, Deirdre Costello cornered the market as women of easy virtue in 70's sitcoms. She is probably best remembered for her role as 'Linda Preston' in Peter Tinniswood's 'I Didn't Know You Cared'. She later appeared in another Vince Powell show - 'Mind Your Language' as sexy barmaid Mavis.

Roger ( Anton Darby ), the hairdresser, is not on screen for long but manages to make John Inman's 'Mr.Humphries' look macho.

Bill's puritanical attitude towards his neighbour's attempt at infidelity sounds strange coming from one who tried to do exactly the same thing himself in the previous episode. Sandra is thrilled at the sight of two men fighting over her and her suggestion of going back to her place for a drink implies she may be up for a threesome. Then Barbie ( newly returned from Trinidad ) and Joan arrive and the whole thing ends in tears.

Funniest moment - Eddie and Bill are punished by their wives by being forced to do the washing-up! I reckon they got off lightly...
