Netflix Renews Jason Momoa's Frontier For Season 3

If you're not watching Jason Momoa's Netflix series Frontier, you should be! It's a really freakin' good series. I'm still in the process of watching it and I've been enjoying it. I put off watching it for awhile, but once I started I was hooked. So, it's good to learn that it's been renewed for a third season.

Season 3 is said to consist of six episodes and will premiere in 2018. If you aren't familiar with the series, Momoa stars as Declan Harp, a part-Irish, part-native American outlaw campaigning to breach the fur trade.

The series was co-created by Rob and Peter Blackie and it also stars Landon Liboiron (Hemlock Grove), Alun Armstrong (New Tricks, Braveheart), Zoe Boyle (Downton Abbey, Sons of Anarchy), Jessica Matten (A Red Girl’s Reasoning), Allan Hawco (Republic of Doyle) and Katie McGrath (King Arthur: Legend of the Sword).

Frontier Season 1 Review

All six episodes were provided prior to broadcast.

If it’s possible for a show to be remarkably unremarkable, Netflix’s Frontier, a co-production with Discovery Channel Canada, makes an exceptional case. Grizzled and merciless, yet also drab and un-involving, this 18th Century-based period drama is dark, brooding and quite violent. No doubt of that. But there’s little that makes it unique or intriguing, especially in its muddled execution. Cold, monotonous, dimly lit and fairly shallow in its approach, it’s almost as if the freshman series tries to be as dull as possible. In this age of modern television, especially during its peak era, it’s a starkly mediocre piece of work.

In 1670, King Charles II grants England’s Hudson’s Bay Company land they can’t rightfully claim. Occupied by “aboriginal peoples for thousands of years,” as the opening credits put so elegantly, they once held a dominant fur trading monopoly,

Netflix’s Frontier Trailer Finds Jason Momoa Going Savage

On the big screen, Jason Momoa assumes the role of Aquaman within the DC cinematic universe, but the Game of Thrones alum won’t be leaving the small screen behind. He’s set to lead Frontier, Netflix’s latest, grizzled period drama, which finds the long-haired, bearded actor as a fur trader gone rogue, killing and disfiguring those who’ve wronged him left and right in the name of revenge and power in the late 1700s. Expect violence and betrayal aplenty.

Created by Peter and Rob Blackie (Republic of Doyle), Frontier‘s first trailer isn’t afraid to showcase the blood, sweat and villainous anger that will be found in the new streaming series. As an outlaw giving headaches to the Hudson’s Bay Company, the largest single landowner at the time and the ones with the monopoly on the fur trade business in the land of soon-to-be Canada, Momoa

Jordan Canning, Peter Mooney and Steve Cochrane on Becoming One Big, Happy Family in 'We Were Wolves'

Jordan Canning isn't new to the Toronto International Film Festival -- her short film "Seconds" won the fest's Rbc Emerging Filmmakers Competition in 2012. But "We Were Wolves" marks the first time the promising Canadian writer/director took a feature to Tiff.

Shot over the course of two weeks at their cinematographer's family cottage in northern Ontario, the indie drama was a labour of love for the small cast and crew, who found themselves handling multiple jobs, everything from craft services to lugging gear around the isolated island they shot on. Peter Mooney ("Rookie Blue") stars as Nick in the film, a responsible young father trying to settle affairs after his dad's death, when his estranged, slacker older brother Danny (co-writer Steve Cochrane) shows up out of the blue with his own ideas on what to do about their father's cottage. Longstanding grudges and years of resentment bubble up over that weekend,
