What it attempts to do, it succeeds at brilliantly. Which is, a well executed parody which is not terribly unlike the many fake news reports from The Onion. So dry, were those, that the majority of buffoons legitimately took them at face value and were, through sheer hyper-stupidity, not able to recognize any parody. Same thing seems to be happening with this film.
The FP is a fairly different type of film which would have been unheard of several decades ago...a comedy/parody masquerading very sincerely as a dramatic film, and all the while drawing attention to comical stereotypes, cheesy films, and current cultural stupidity.
I am only 3 or 4 levels shy of receiving my Troll Mastership, a certification I've worked diligently to receive. But despite that, even I cant find much negativity to sling at this film, and I abhor nearly everything. It is one of the nearly non-existent perfect comedies, in that, it achieves everything the writer/directors intended, and quite a bit more, without laughably and brutally horrific emulation of other comedies. It's not only a film, but a barometer of other peoples stupidity.
It gets into character, and stays there. It slaps you, before taking you from behind, and then doesn't even cuddle with you afterward. It spits at your mother whilst fingering your backside during a Catholic wedding ceremony in which the bride has slept with the grooms father, twice, and released it online just prior to sleeping with the African grounds keeper on their honeymoon to Zimbabwe.
It's a silly movie, sure. But its flavor if silliness isn't nearly as beat down and tired as the overwhelmingly safe, simple, convenient, derivative, idiot-mass-appeal, and well-trodden paths other so-called comedy writer/directors are shamelessly spewing like so much bum-gravy lately.
The FP, silly hyper-parody done right.
