James Earl Jones, who plays the stuttering shop clerk, actually did have a stutter like his character.
The movie marks the return of Phil Alden Robinson in directing a movie, after twelve years of absence.
The movie is a remake of the Isreali movie Mar Baum (1997), which was directed/written by/starred Assi Dayan, the son of Israeli general and Minister of Defense Moshe Dayan.
Sharon Gill (Mila Kunis) says her parents were from Wisconsin. That is where Kunis's character Jackie Burkhardt from That '70s Show (1998) is from.
Robin Williams, Mila Kunis and James Earl Jones have all acted in Disney fairytales: Williams was the Genie in Aladdin (1992), Kunis was the Wicked Witch in Oz the Great and Powerful (2013) and Jones was Mufasa in The Lion King (1994) (technically an adaptation of Hamlet than a fairytale).
Robin Williams and Hamish Linklater star in this movie and also in The Crazy Ones (2013)
