Pickin' & Trimmin' (2008)

At a North Carolina barbershop, the atmosphere is laid back, the conversation free, and the music a cut above the rest. An engagingly genuine slice of old time Americana.

Masterfully crafted view of small town USA. Great camera work and editing.

I was very impressed by this film at Mountainfilm in Telluride 2008. A fantastic piece of work that starts off in one direction then subtly shifts onto a new subject. Then, it plays the two off each other while painting incredible character studies. Showcasing the people and atmosphere of a small rural community as well as anything I've seen. Takes me right back to my summers on an uncle's farm in Eastern Oregon. Great cinematography, some tasty camera angles and compositions. Fantastic music and editing. Good timing and spacing of the edits. The film kind of moves along slow and lingers over some really good shots creating a real sense of atmosphere. This one's a winner of a short film! As a indie filmmaker, I'd be proud to make one like it.
