During a promotional interview with Buzzfeed ahead of the release of Avengers: Age of Ultron [read our spoiler free ★★★★★ review here], Joss Whedon got onto the topic of Marvel’s next movie Ant-Man, and more specifically Edgar Wright’s original screenplay for the miniature superhero, which he calls “the best script that Marvel ever had.”

“I don’t get it. I thought the script was not only the best script that Marvel had ever had, but the most Marvel script I’d read. I had no interest in Ant-Man. [Then] I read the script, and was like, Of course! This is so good! It reminded me of the books when I read them. Irreverent and funny and could make what was small large, and vice versa. I don’t know where things went wrong. But I was very sad. Because I thought, This is a no-brainer. This is Marvel getting it exactly right. Whatever dissonance that came, »

Kevin Feige talks Ant-Man and its place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, new trailer arriving tomorrow

12 April 2015 2:46 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Yesterday during the press conference for Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige announced that the second trailer for the studio’s other 2015 release Ant-Man is set to arrive online tomorrow (Monday 13th April), while he also took a moment to discuss the film’s place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe during an interview with Slash Film.

“[Ant-Man] is not [an after-thought]. The truth is the phases mean a lot to me and some people but Captain America: Civil War is the start of Phase Three. It just is. And Ant-Man is a different kind of culmination of Phase Two because it very much is in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. You meet new characters and you learn about Hank Pym and his lineage with the McU over the years. EW has debuted the first official photo of Yellowjacket, the big-bad to Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man in Marvel’s other big summer movie.

7 Underrated Treats of 'Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt'

9 March 2015 4:09 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

We spent the weekend enjoying the hell out of "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt," the new Netflix series from "30 Rock" royalty Tina Fey and Robert Carlock. Starring "Office" and "Bridesmaids" vet Ellie Kemper, it chronicles the life of a woman who escapes from an apocalyptic cult and builds a new life in New York City. It is a scream. Here are seven major things to appreciate about it.   1. Veteran TV actresses get tons to do.  "30 Rock" provided a wonderful showcase for veteran comic actors, and we can thank the Fey/Carlock mothership for giving Elaine Stritch, Jan Hooks, Anita Gillette, Tim Conway, Alan Alda, and many, many more such fun and weird roles. "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt" is off to a great start in this area: Regular cast members Carol Kane and Jane Krakowski rack up some of the biggest laughs every episode as they notch another hit in their incredible TV careers, »

The Last Five Years' Richard Lagravanese Films a Musical for Purists

3 March 2015 6:39 AM, PST | www.culturecatch.com | See recent CultureCatch news »

"It's important to think. It's what separates us from lentils." --Richard Lagravanese, The Fisher King

He did it the hard way, like David battling Goliath this past Valentine's Day. Yes, Richard Lagravanese's latest effort, The Last Five Years, a romantic musical of sorts with next to no spoken dialogue, opened against the whip-wielding Fifty Shades of Grey, a syrupy soft core melodrama with perhaps too much dialogue.

The battle's result so far, at least as of this past Monday: $137,945 versus a worldwide take of $485,791,785. Well, at least David got the better reviews.

Yes, Richard Lagravanese, the Oscar-nominated screenwriter of such acclaimed titles as The Fisher King, Behind the Candelabra, The Bridges of Madison County, and Unbroken, which he co-wrote with the Coen Brothers, and the intermittent director of such fare as Living Out Loud and Freedom Writers, is a survivor of numerous Hollywood battles, many won, some lost. Bobby Cannavale compares Ant-Man to Guardians of the Galaxy, “it’s pretty funny”

2 March 2015 4:02 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

It was assumed based on the cast and crew of Marvel’s Ant-Man that it would be quite comedic in tone, but a darker trailer than people were expecting quashed some of those thoughts. However, we have been promised by Judy Greer that there was “lots of improvised comedy”, which have come to know from the likes of Paul Rudd. Now, Bobby Cannavale, who is set to play Paxton in the movie, also backs up this idea.

“It’s pretty funny,” he told Nuke The Fridge. “I think so. I haven’t seen anything but it felt funny. It’s Paul, so I think they’re not hiring Paul Rudd to be The Winter Soldier. It’s going to have a sense of levity to it, like Guardians of the Galaxy. Guardians is a blue chips superhero movie but it’s a pretty funny film. They just got the right people. »

Interview: ‘The Last Five Years’ Director Richard Lagravenese

Chicago – The movie musical seems to revive every year, and writer/director Richard Lagravenese puts his spin on the genre with a modern touch. A couple, portrayed by Jeremy Jordan and Anna Kendrick, goes through the ups and downs of a relationship while belting out appropriate tunes in “The Last Five Years.”

The film is based on the stage play by Jason Robert Brown, and is the type of musical that is entirely sung. The songs are sad (“Still Hurting”), hilarious (“Summer in Ohio”) and poignant (“If I Didn’t Believe in You”) and are rendered by the couple in a direct and modern approach through Lagravenese’s direction.
