Exclusive: Why Kim Cattrall Seriously Doubts We’ll See 'Sex & the City 3'

Exclusive: Why Kim Cattrall Seriously Doubts We’ll See 'Sex & the City 3'
It's not that Kim Cattrall isn't game for a third Sex and the City, but the actress -- known for her Golden Globe-winning role as Samantha Jones on the hit HBO dramedy -- is nearly 20 years older than she was when the show first premiered in 1998.

Now 60, Cattrall says her interests lie in projects about women her age that aren't being made. Since 2014, she’s been co-producing and starring in the HBO Canada drama Sensitive Skin, playing Davina Jackson, a 50-something woman who struggles with aging. Cattrall also plays Emily French, a glamorous, well-off widow exploring the emotional cost of being a middle-aged woman in BBC One’s adaptation of the Agatha Christie short story The Witness for the Prosecution, premiering in the U.S. Monday, Jan. 30 on Acorn TV.

In a chat with Et, Cattrall opens up about taking on parts that "dispel" female convention, producing roles women that she says Hollywood isn't and the possibility

Meet Monica Velour

Does romantic love transcend age? Harold and Maude said “yes”, and for doing so it’s become something of a cult classic. Altering that formula, Meet Monica Velour shows a teenage boy’s infatuation with a female porn star long past her prime and his inability to connect with his peers because of it. Though Kim Cattrall as the titular Monica Velour undoubtedly provides a lot of the drawing power, the film is peppered with other seasoned pros like Brian Dennehy and Keith David, but the film gets its main drive from Dustin Ingram, the visual epitome of stereotypical movie geeks, who gives an impressive performance with only a few issues here and there. It’s an interesting drama and a great lead debut for Ingram, but he barely holds his own against the veterans in a story where the emotional investment feels entirely one-sided.

The Killing (Criterion Collection) I tried hard to get all the features on this one watched before writing this up and I came close, the last thing I have is the inclusion of Stanley Kubrick's Killer's Kiss, which if you ask me, makes this one of the better releases of the year. Two Kubrick films in one package? Impressive, let alone the fact The Killing is a very good film, but I'll talk more about that in a full review that's coming down the line. The one extra thing I will mention here is this has a great little archival set of interviews with Sterling Hayden, who really can keep you entertained with his unique delivery. He can keep you fascinated in and out of his films. Cul-de-sac (Criterion Collection) I did not yet have a chance to watch Roman Polanski's Cul-de-sac.

Kim Cattrall: 'I'm happy not to be a sex icon'
Kim Cattrall has revealed that she is ready to move on from being considered a "sexual icon". The 54-year-old Sex and the City actress insisted that she is happy that she is no longer such a sex symbol and can start taking on different roles such as an ageing ex-porn star working as a pole dancer in new film Meet Monica Velour. Cattrall told Empire: "It was so much fun to leave behind this kind of sexual icon thing. I was so ready to shed it. I've been sexualised since a very early part of my career. "I understand it, I've made it work for me, but I've always felt that I'm a character actress stuck inside a leading lady's body. Now, I feel like I am doing my best work." Cattrall (more)

Meet Monica Velour Review

  • HeyUGuys
Kim Cattrall has been travelling a lot to talk to the media about her new film, Meet Monica Velour, which is out on DVD today (July 4th), and her support for this modest indie is understandable; Cattrall has railed against Hollywood’s indifference to women her age, and was recently pull-quoted on the cover of The Guardian’s ‘Weekend’ magazine as saying she’s finished with the place. Her dowdy, washed up porn actress Monica is light-years from her glam sexpot character on Sex and the City and an undeniably great part for any middle aged actress.

Cattrall is sadly endearing as the damaged Monica, living in a trailer park and struggling with substance abuse while attempting to pay her bills and wrest custody of her daughter from her abusive ex husband. Teenage dork Tobe Hulbert (Dustin Ingram), a Napoleon Dynamite look-alike and avid fan of Ms. Velour’s cheesy oeuvre,

Kim Cattrall "loved" gaining 20lbs

Kim Cattrall
Kim Cattrall has declared that she had an "amazing" time gaining weight. The Sex and the City actress ditched 37 years of healthy eating to play a voluptuous porn star in Meet Monica Velour, spending months gorging on fatty foods and sugary treats. "It was a stretch for me," she joked on The Graham Norton Show. "Literally a stretch as I had to gain 20lbs to play this character... it was fantastic! "I have been on a diet since 1974 so this was time for me to eat. God I love to eat, chips and crisps and puddings. Oh, it was amazing!" Cattrall (more)

Kim Cattrall: You can take the girl out of Liverpool… | Interview

Sex And The City made Kim Cattrall a star, but when it ended she couldn't wait to chuck out the Louboutins. She talks to Hadley Freeman about money, men and being mates with Steven Gerrard

As chance would have it, a few days before I was scheduled to interview Kim Cattrall, I spotted her former Sex And The City co-star Sarah Jessica Parker coming out of a restaurant in downtown New York. But instead of feeling like one of those magical Manhattan coincidences that generally happen only on Sex And The City, it looked like an ominous portent.

Parker is now nigh on unrecognisable from her youthful film career and the early (and best) days of the long-running show, having attained the seemingly de rigueur body shape for actresses – one that has been pummelled into a permanent apology for being a woman. Surrounded by bellowing paparazzi, she looked thin and guarded and miserable.

Cattrall's Monica Velour Heading Straight To DVD In Britain

Cattrall's Monica Velour Heading Straight To DVD In Britain
Kim Cattrall's latest film Meet Monica Velour is heading straight to DVD in Britain after failing to impress U.S cinemagoers.

The Sex and the City star plays a washed-up prostitute in the movie, but it failed to set the box office alight in America when it was released last year.

It made its U.K. debut at Scotland's Edinburgh Film Festival earlier this week (begs20Jun11) - but instead of hitting theatres, it is scheduled to be released on DVD only.

Cattrall's agent tells Britain's Daily Telegraph, "We were planning for an art house release."

The DVD Files: Meet Monica Velour, coming to DVD in the UK on 4th July

We have just received word that Meet Monica Velour, which stars Kim Cattrall, is coming to UK DVD on July 4th, courtesy of Anchor Bay Films.

Geeky Tobe Hulbert’s (newcomer Dustin Ingram) life sucks. A recent high-school graduate living in Washington with his grandfather (Brian Dennehy The Next Three Days), he works out of a vintage hot dog truck, and his only friend is his overweight 12-year-old neighbour. In the dog-days of summer, his only escape is obsessively watching videos of his fantasy girl, ’80′s porn star Monica Velour (Kim Cattrall Sex And The City). In this irreverent comedy, awkward teenager Tobe sets off on a life-changing road trip, set against a ’30s jazz soundtrack and Indiana’s expansive cornfields, as he travels across the state to meet Monica Velour, the woman of his dreams at a rare live appearance hundreds of miles away. Expecting his fantasy, Tobe is

Edinburgh Film Festival 2011: Day Five – Jitters, Meet Monica Velour, Bob Marley: The Making of A Legend

The quality of films at the Festival dipped for me somewhat today; combined with overcast skies and oppressive warmth in Edinburgh part of me wished I was at home in a bath of ice water. Things started fairly strong, with an interesting movie from Iceland called Jitters. Its unfortunate tagline is ‘Life is happening right here, right now.’ Thanks for that. I honestly couldn’t remember what the film was about when it started, having ticked it off as one to see weeks ago. Based on the title, I thought it might be a horror movie.

About halfway through I remembered that it has been widely described as ‘the Icelandic Skins.’ For me this isn’t a compliment. The movie is nowhere near as bad as that TV series is, but the description does underline part of the problem with the film: after a certain point, it feels like a soap opera.

Edinburgh Film Festival 2011: Day Four – Trollhunter, The Caller, Post-Mortem

As there are fewer press screenings at the weekend, and because I was only able to see one movie today for tediously practical reasons, I am compressing the weekend into one blog. I began Saturday morning with a movie I had been looking forward to: the Norwegian Trollhunter, whose title gives you a pretty good idea of its plot. Some student filmmakers meet a guy in Norway who hunts trolls. Our man in Oz – Oliver Pfeiffer reviewed it at the Sydney Film Festival recently.

The trolls, and the trollhunter himself, do not disappoint. They are fairly imaginatively rendered, and there is plenty of humour throughout. The rules about the trolls come from Norwegian and Scandinavian mythology. They can smell the blood of Christians, for instance, and sunlight will turn them into stone (though a strong Uv bulb will do it). When a Muslim character turns up, and asks if the trolls can smell her,
