A very interesting take on the Knight and the Princess concept
zombiefan8925 August 2012
The story is quite simple. It sort of follows the typical survival game formula with monster of the week thrown in. Anyway, a royal family of monsters must live their adolescence as pretty much humans until they reach maturity when they become immortal, invincible, god-like creatures that look like phoenixes. The reason they kill each other is just that, once they reach maturity, no one can stop them, and you would have a lot of god-like phoenixes. Enter the game, each royal child is given an android servant that only says Fuga. This servant will also self-destruct if their respective prince or princess is killed. Additionally, the royalty can "recruit" an infinite number of half-immortal soldiers to fight on their behalf. What makes their soldiers half-immortal is that while they're completely invincible, their immortality has a time limit of about three days. At that time, the royalty they serve must renew their immortality another three days via the Flame of Life, or their blood in the manga. On to characters, the story follows the main character, Hiro (pronounced "Hero"), is a typical anime fourteen-year-old boy with the courage to throw himself into harm's way to save the life of another, which is how he meets the Princess. His older sister is also the Princess's live-in maid. The Princess, or Hime(which means princess in Japanese) as she's called, is sort of a femme-fatale, with the skill to use any weapon, most famously a chainsaw. Overall, I really enjoyed the show. It was an interesting concept, and it played out really well. My favorite moments are when Hiro becomes absolutely critical to Hime's survival, instead of her just hacking down the monsters herself.

good, but could have been so much better...
joelherro6 January 2012
this series had the makings of something special...as it is, its not bad, but im a little disappointed that given the material, it could have been a real winner...

Hiro saves the life of a princess named Hime (which i think is just Japanese for princess, correct me if im wrong) and dies in the attempt, but she is a princess of the underworld (or something similar) and grants him half-immortality (?) as her forever loyal servant...their lives revolve around escaping or dealing with the various monsters sent by the rest of her royal siblings who are fighting for the throne of their kingdom...

Hiro is another weak main male character, with no talent for pretty much anything, and he's afraid of the attention he gets from all the cute chicks around him (why are these main guys afraid of the chicks all the time?), but he is fiercely loyal and very brave...Hiro's sister Sawawa would have to be the cutest, thickest bimbo I've ever seen in any anime and Hime is cold and uninteresting, although cute...

There's monsters, vampires, werewolves, zombies and all manner of creatures, yet its quite tame despite all this supernatural stuff. I haven't read the manga, but i've heard it was more graphic, whereas this has minimal blood and violence. For me, more focus on the action and less on the slapstick comedy could have really made this awesome.

The characters are likable, and there's the usual absurdities like Hime's android servant Flandre only ever saying 'huga', as do all the androids, with no reason given as to why...the animation is nothing special either...yet for all its faults, i couldn't help but like it eventually...maybe u will, maybe not, its quite long, so take your time.

Princess Buzz-saw And The Undying Hiro ~ Pure Dog Heaven ~ Ooga-Chaka! °7.5° °VG ° 💯%🔍
50fiftillidideeBrain13 November 2023
'Oh, dear. I forgot that Hiro's flame of life would be depleted by now. He's probably lying dead somewhere. I know it would be inconvenient, but could you go get him?' She sips her tea... There's a good crack-the-window-and-peek-in at PR for ya.

PR has a compact, organized feel. Not expecting much, it was surprising how it drew me in. PR is casual fun with no emotional investment. Each episode is a tidy parfait of empty calories to fill downtime perfectly. It's a fantasy tale with mythical creatures and underworld overlords. Its simplicity is deceptive because there's nothing simple about crisp comedic timing. Were it that easy, more entertainment would achieve the same level of competence. A 2007 release, it's rated a stingy 6.98 on MAL and consists of 1 season of 25 24-minute English dubbed episodes. Offshoot productions are: Kaibutsu Oujo: Konsui Oujo/Princess Comatose - 1 23-minute episode, and OVA Kaibutsu Oujo - 3 22-minute episodes, neither of which are streamable currently.

Our FL, Liliane, gets alittle too carried away with a chainsaw. She's good with a pitchfork, too. Like any good princess, she's normally accompanied by the sound of a teacup clinking as it's being delicately placed on a saucer. She's quite the looker. Wildman Riza - she's out to avenge her brother. She doggedly works to that end. She's brave, strong, and loyal - and h🔥t. Kamura Reiri - though she should be natural enemies with the gang, she cannot bring herself to hate them. She looks like the Dusk Maiden of Amnesia, however, PR precedes DMOA both onscreen and in print, so perhaps PR inspired the look of our DMOA. She's super-h🔥t. Hiyorimi Sawawa is Hiro's sister, who works for Liliane. She's all chest (b👀bs and 💛), no brain. Her looks and the effect she has on men is a running bit in the show, oblivious though she is. All this h🔥tness has the guys at school h🔥t-and-bothered and wondering what Hiro has that they don't?

Hiyorimi Hiro is our ML and he develops the bad habit of dying. He's like a doll; he spends a mean 15% of the show passed out and flopped on the floor; they revive him when they need him. He also looks a bit like Kenichi (The Mightiest Disciple 7.5). Early on he and Kenichi start much the same way. They are both hapless nobodies who stumble onto the extraordinary and end up as heroes. Tenderhearted Liliane decides to bring him back to life in ep1 in order to use him as a soldier in the many fights she must suffer from her siblings as they struggle for the crown. Yes, tenderhearted - it's not like anybody would have picked Hiro out of a lineup to be their champion. I doubt he was in the top half of picks for pick-up 🏀 either. Liliane's not interested in the 👑 so she only plays defense. She is attacked on other fronts as well, so she keeps Hiro busy.

Princess Sherwood is Liliane's little sister. She's a touch bratty and she wants what her sister has (Hiro, mainly) but she is good and true. Flandre, the maid - she weighs several tons but leaves no footprints. We must assume she has a hover function. Groot wasn't the first character to just say one thing. Flandre, and all the androids for that manner, only say "hoogah". If they could just team up with Chaika The Coffin Princess, or perhaps, make an android that says "chakah" they could karaoke Blue Swede:

Ooga-Ooga Ooga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga Ooga-Chaka Ooga-OogaOoga-Chaka Ooga-Ooga Ooga-Chaka I can't stop this feeling Deep inside of me Girl, you just don't realize What you do to me... Ahhhh, ah ah, ah ahh, Hooked on the Feeling!

Ah, the 70s: The absolute pinnacle of music. It's all been level or downhill since '76...

Speaking of music, they do a nice job with the soundtrack of PR. The music enhances the comedy - It's expert at times. The opening credit song is twangy pop guitar. It's a solid song and it complements the crisp pithy tone. The art is dark, heavy, and crude to augment the mysterious-and-scary theme. People are drawn with heavy lines, simplicity, and blocky details. PR pays tribute to late 20th century art with backgrounds that are almost modern art with their crude slashes and bold color. The art matches Liliane's personality.

The show is funny. Episode 10 is as charming as charming can get. PR may not deliver constant out loud laughter, but it does provide steady smiles. One example is when they show a shot of our ML sleeping and then cut to Riza, girl warrior, sleeping, each in their respective rooms. She's on her back, limbs sprawled, mouth open, not a care in the world. He's curled up like a timid cat. It's compact juxtaposition humor, which takes a little skill and extra effort. Shows that take lazy steps create irritations that must be tolerated by viewers, while shows that incorporate tasty details provide little mental and emotional massages. They lift burdens rather than piling on. That we should appreciate.

〰🖍 IMHO

🎬7.5 📝7 🎭8 💓5 🦋1 🌞4 🎨7 ⚡7 🎵/🔊6.8 😅6.5 😭3 😱4 😯3 😖3 🤔2 💤0 🔚? The manga goes on...

Poli-wagging Age 13+ Language: b!+ch, @$$ and several compound variations of the word, d@mn - it's not every episode, but it's steady enough.

A mixed breed's conception is mocked. There's some occasional breast focus with mostly-bare cleav@ge once or twice. The princess is between a C/D ©up, which is the anime version of a mosquito bite. A group of immortal attackers are punished by being killed over and over again - that's horrific if one pauses to think about it. Hiro's classmates drop by to check out the women of the house (Why him? What's so special about him? How does he do it?). One fantasizes about big sis, who has big twins on her chest. Another fantasizes about Wildman Riza, the super-fit and very active woman. Another fantasizes about the princess dominating him. It's cute - they don't take it too far... except for one scene in which big sis is treating a HS boy's injuries and he gets a face-full when she leans forward. Any se×ual illusions are brief, scattered, and almost lackluster. It's not a focus.

Rated TV-PG-13

Re-📺? Neutral stance. Rewatch value would be for late at night "brainless" wind-down and not for the content alone. It's a funny show.

Good program
torpedo2618 July 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This series is quite entertaining, my only issue with it is that it's unfinished there is only one season and they left it open for more yet no more was done and that was back in 2007 now i've only got in to these types of programs in the last year or so and i've enjoyed what i have come across so far, and i don't like it when i watch anything incomplete.

If there's a way to get into contact with the director and writers and ask them to open the story back up and carry on were they left off they will make a lot of people very happy there are a fair number of people that like this program and even tho they say it's good and worth a watch (even with some negative comments) they still all want the rest of the program to watch.

So please those out there with the right connections try your hardest to get this program going again. Thank You.

Some of the Characters were likeable and some weren't. Also the story didn't interest me to be amused by the whole anime itself
Irishchatter30 December 2018
I was also disappointed with the English dub version, I only watched it painfully for the first episode and then switched it for the sub in the next episode. Although the Japanese voice actors were better, I just felt that the whole thing didn't interest me enough to fully like it. I mean it really had potential like I have never seen a actual princess in an anime be so badass! However it was so disappointing like they added such pointless characters like the whingy boy, his dopey sister maid and that other little girl maid robot that keeps saying "Haga" for no absoulete reason. I would absouletely love if she didn't exist as a character in this so that she doesn't annoy me with that painfully atrocious word ever again! Although it's too late as its still lingering in my head for so many days, even typing this review lol!

I'm only giving it 5/10 for the princess character but with everyone else, they should've been redone again so that the writers can create better replaceable characters instead in this anime as well as the manga...

Serve Me For All Eternity
Gladius77-126 September 2020
A young man sacrifices himself to save the life of a beautiful stranger on the street of a small town. This stranger turns out to be the Princess of the netherworld, who resurrects him, (Thus the title!), an act which binds poor Hiro to her service for all eternity. He soon finds himself in way over his head in a world of vampires, demons, mummies, and all manner of 1930s movie monsters- many of which are attractive women. The story settles in to a weird balance of slice-of-life, horror, comedy, and kind-of romance with some wonderful lesbian and femdom undertones.

Right out of the gate, this show might be my favorite thing ever. I adore the weird character dynamics and callbacks to classic horror movies. The characters aren't anything tremendously deep, but are well-realized and well-acted. The music ranges from good to great, with highlights from Ali Project. Compared to most other anime, the fight scenes aren't really anything to talk about, but the female cast is older, more mature, and more confident in their abilities and sexuality than one would normally find in the genre. The show actually has a talent for mastering the sex appeal of a subtle gesture compared to most others- a finger slowly slipping along someone's chin is portrayed surprisingly erotically, which is a far scale down from the panty shots anime is known for. The story, when it finally gets going, is a great idea and a vector for all sorts of fights and drama.

So why does this show only have a 6.6 with 111 ratings, and only four reviews from a decade ago? Princess Resurrection does have its drawbacks. The odd mish-mash of genres means I struggle to even categorize it, to know who to recommend it to. If I tell you it's a horror show, there's not -that- much horror. If it's a comedy, there's not -that- much comedy. If you want to see pretty ladies fighting monsters, the fight scenes aren't -that- great. The translation you'll find anywhere makes some choices that will likely confuse the audience- for example, the main character, the eponymous Princess Resurrection, asks to be referred to as 'Hime'. This is not her name- Hime is the Japanese word for Princess. She is being referred to by her title, and dislikes her actual name. But if you didn't already know this (I was lucky enough to catch the simulcast back in the day, which used a different translation) you would have no reason NOT to assume her name is Hime, which will leave you in the dust when characters call her by her -actual- name later in the story. The English dub is fine if you must use it, but I don't think any of the actors really got their characters 100% (aside from Hilary Haag as Sherwood, who nails her part)- and like I said, these characters aren't especially deep, so I'm not sure what wasn't to get. To my ears, the Japanese vocals seem much better acted. Worst of all, the show ends almost as soon as the main plot gets started, leaving you to track down the comics it was based off of if you want closure- and THEN your realize that the anime basically used the manga as a rough draft, and can be kind of alienating to those only familiar with the animation.

Overall, I adore the show, the story, and its characters, but I understand why it never especially caught on. If the phrase "Pretty ladies fight classic movie monsters" got you interested in watching, I think you'll enjoy it! Just be sure to temper your expectations. Anyone else could probably find any individual element of this show done better elsewhere.
