- Quotes
[dream sequence, arriving at a vampire's castle]
Professor Roy Hinkley: [as "Sherlock"] I am inspector Sherlock and this is my associate, Colonel Watney.
Jonas 'The Skipper' Grumby: [as "Watney"] How do you do?
Professor Roy Hinkley: Have you been expecting us?
Mary Ann Summers: [as the castle caretaker] Expecting you? Five years ago I wrote you to come investigate the strange happenings in this house. FIVE YEARS! What took you so long?
Jonas 'The Skipper' Grumby: W-w-well the fact is... uh... we had trouble getting a Hansom Cab!
Professor Roy Hinkley: Eh... precisely! We had to WALK!
Mary Ann Summers: You walked? All the way from England?
Jonas 'The Skipper' Grumby: Yes, and of course, crossing the channel was devilishly slow. You see it was take one step, and come up for air, and then take another step, and come up for air...
Mary Ann Summers: Never mind!
- Alternate versionsOn the TVLand airing the scene with the bat is cut. It still keeps Watney's comment.

I agree with the last reviewer, at the time the airwaves were filled with old monster movies, thanks to Universal Pictures releasing all their classic DRACULA and FRANKENSTEIN movies, so why not get Gilligan into a spooker? Caution: the bat, which is supposed to be Gilligan, looks kind of phony, but it's still kind of cool, if that makes sense! You have to admit, all the props on the show were comedy originals, and you often wonder what happened to them when the series ended. What treasures, let alone the wardrobe changes.
BEST of the REST! Changing scenes to Transylvania! Mrs. And Mrs. Howell drop in to a well stocked, cobwebbed castle... Raggedy, old Maryann(?) answers the door with a creepy giggle?
In the other room is vampiress Ginger who opens a coffin to find Dracula Gilligan! Absolutely amazing stuff, and well acted by the cast.
Next! Stopping by the fog-shrouded castle is Sherlock Holmes-type investigators, played by the Skipper and the professor? Alan Hale is a hoot, replete with a British accent! They make their way through the eerie castle and finally encounter Dracula Gilligan!
Can't tell y'all how it ends, but you probably got a good idea, right?
Again, the cast is obviously having a blast, and that's the key to great comedy. This was a real family episode. Directed by old pro Jerry Hopper, also associated with PERRY MASON, who reportedly directed more than 600 tv shows. He earned his retirement!
Atv classic of classics, and restored in beautiful color for Halloween. SEASON 3 EPISODE 1 remastered dvd box set.
