Who Steals My Purse Steals Trash, But A Diamond Stick Pin Is Worth Cash
boblipton23 March 2020
There's a reunion dinner at Delmonico's for the West Point class of 1859. One of their number, who rose to Colonel during the Civil War, has fallen on very hard times indeed. Nonetheless his wife and sickly grand daughter insist he go, dressed in a cardboard shirt and borrowed suit while they sup on dry bread a kindly neighbor has given them.

At the dinner, a diamond stick pin is admired and is being handed around. The lights go out, and when they go on again, the pin is missing, and the Colonel is the last person to have been holding it. When the police are called, he refuses to be searched.

Did he take it? Is he ashamed to be revealed as poor? It's a sentimental and touching short subject from Alice Guy's Solax studio.
