Twenty five years ago Director Ivan Reitman, with help from writers Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, created one of my childhood favourites, Ghostbusters. I have rarely seen a comedy in which the actors fire off hilarious line after another. The comic timing of Murray, Aykroyd, Ramis, and Moranis in particular is something to behold. It is hard to think of another eighties film packed with so many iconic moments such as the team’s run-in with the librarian, Venkman’s coldness during the psychic test, the “cougar” incident, the arrest and release of the gang, and of course that giant sugary white man-beast. This is one of those films which have an ability to immediately put a smile on my face and I wouldn’t be surprised if I were to watch this again shortly after finishing this review.
I feel as though I have

There’s been a lot of non-news and speculation surrounding another Ghostbusters sequel in the last year or so, with most of it not worth mentioning. But now the folks over at Makingof.com have posted something that is actually worth taking a look at. They caught up with director Harold Ramis and got him to open up about the potential project. He talks about the film’s status, what a new Ghostbusters would be like in the now special-effect heavy world and briefly mentions past attempts at trying to get Ghostbusters III off the ground. Check it out below. Ramis as well as Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson, all of whom have loosely agreed to reprise their roles, are awaiting a first draft of the script, which is being written by The Office and Year One scribes Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg.

His latest movie, Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen, may be making so much money that it could buy Cristiano Ronaldo and still have enough left over for a cheeky punt at Fernando Torres’ left leg, but Lorenzo di Bonaventura isn’t wasting time lighting cigars with hundred dollar bills.Well, he might be, but the uber-producer is also busy setting up his next project, Hellified, over at Paramount for second unit genius Dan Bradley to direct, once he’s finished his conversion to first unit with the Red Dawn remake.Hellified is a supernatural action script by Andy Burg, a writer best known for comedies like K-9. Burg’s been away from Hollywood for a while, but now he’s back back back, with Hellified causing something of a stir.Little is known about the story, but the movie will involve a trip to hell, a storyline that instantly calls

It's been 25 years since "Who ya gonna call?" became a national catchphrase and 20 years since the bland sequel to Ghostbusters all but ended the franchise. Over the years, there has been sporadic talk about reviving the franchise, but the principals could never agree to terms and the franchise languished. Now, the possibility of a third film about New York City's favorite paranormal investigators seems a possibility, thanks to an unlikely impetus: the Ghostbusters video game.
A couple of weeks ago, Harold Ramis, who co-wrote and starred in the first two Ghostbusters films, said he had written a story for a third film that The Office writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky were adapting into a screenplay. Now, with the Ghostbusters video game becoming the top-selling Xbox 360 game and second best-selling Playstation 3 game on Amazon.com, there is even more talk about the film franchise. As reported in Variety, Mark Caplan,

The news and rumors related to upcoming sequels has hit ludicrous speed and my brains are going into my feet! Most of these will either never come true or won't come true for another year or two, but let's see what they have to offer anyway. The first story comes from The Guardian by way of the Daily Express (which is to say it is almost certainly false) saying Michael Sheen is reported to be in negotiations to play Ernst Stavro Blofeld in the 23rd official Bond picture, set for release in 2011. The news comes as a result of Peter Morgan boarding the project as screenwriter and the history Sheen and Morgan have together. Considering Morgan isn't directing I'm not sure why that would mean Sheen would instantly be considered, but that is just me. Jack Black is desperate to star in the new Ghostbusters sequel and lobbied original star Harold Ramis when the pair worked together on new movie Year One.
After directing Black in the neanderthal comedy, Ramis is preparing to reprise his role as Dr. Egon Spengler in the third Ghostbusters film.
The veteran is also on the shortlist to direct the sequel, and Black admits he used his time with Ramis to campaign for the chance to hunt ghouls with him.
Black tells Moviefone, "Could I see myself in it? Yeah, I can bust some ghosts! I ain't (sic) afraid of no ghosts! Buster."
Ghostbusters III will star the original line-up of Ramis, Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson, as well as a new batch of younger spook chasers.

Harold Ramis needs to pick up the phone. When it comes to Ghostbusters and Ghostbusters II director Ivan Reitman's return for Ghostbusters III, Ramis has said "I don't think he wants to," however Reitman has already said he might be interested in returning. Reitman told MTV:
I've never ruled [directing Ghostbusters III] out. I certainly was responsible in every capacity for the first two movies so I certainly wouldn't wander away from the third one -- especially if it's something we all think is worth doing. Reitman agreed with Ramis that he thought the third movie would revolve around a younger group of characters, perhaps even a female or two. "That was certainly in the outline they proposed," said Reitman.
Reitman claims the script, written by Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg (The Office), should be delivered "in a month or so." At that time, who will be in and who won't be,

It's been 25 years since the birth of the Ghostbusters franchise and the original creative team is working on a new flick. In a telephone interview yesterday, Comingsoon.net talked to writer/director Harold Ramis (Year One, Analyze This, Groundhog Day) and received some info on the upcoming Ghostbusters III.
Ramis and Dan Aykroyd wrote the scripts for the first two movies and both starred with Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson, and Sigourney Weaver. Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky, who are regular writers for The Office, are developing a first draft of the script and Ramis says he's optimistic that the new movie will feature most of the original cast:
I wrote the story for the new movie with [Eisenberg and Stupnitsky], and Dan [Aykroyd] and I've been consulting. We're just waiting to see a first draft and where we are ... Everyone says they'll do it; they've all said they'll do it. No one has signed

The guys over at Coming Soon talked to Harold Ramis, director of Year One and former Ghostbuster, and they asked him about the prospects for Ghostbusters III. Here's a little of what he had to say."I wrote the story for the new movie with them [Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg], and Dan [Aykroyd] and I've been consulting. We're just waiting to see a first draft and where we are. Everyone says they'll do it, they've all said they'll do it. No one has signed anything yet--we haven't signed anything either--but there's the spirit of willingness in the air."That "everyone" appears to include Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson, but Ramis stressed that everything is an "open question" until the script's been finished. He's also not sure if either he or Ivan Reitman will want to direct, but left that open as well. For the full interview, head on over to Coming Soon at the link above.

We've been hearing a lot of stuff about "Ghostbusters III" lately, and although the project is moving ahead for sure, many things are still a bit blurry.
The folks over at ComingSoon recently asked Harold Ramis about the third "Ghostbusters" flick, and the actor/director gave them a quick update on where things are at this stage:
"I wrote the story for the new movie with them, and Dan and I've been consulting. We're just waiting to see a first draft and where we are," he said. "Everyone says they'll do it, they've all said they'll do it."
As far as directing the sequel is concerned, Ramis said he's not sure whether Ivan Reitman or himself would want the job:
"I don't think he wants to; I'm not sure I want to (direct). It's just a lot of open questions. Until we see a script, I don't think anyone really

It’s getting to be that you can’t log onto a movie website these days without catching a tiny update on Ghostbusters III. In fact, with the exception of Rob Zombie’s H2, is there any other movie featured as prominently on websites across the cyber landscape as the upcoming third go ‘round for everyone’s favorite ghost cops?
It feels like the summer of 1984 again with Ghostbusters mania in the air, and today Harold Ramis was on hand to discuss it further. Ramis informed Coming Soon that he penned the story for Ghostbusters III alongside scribes Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg.
"I wrote the story for the new movie with them, and Dan and I've been consulting. We're just waiting to see a first draft and where we are," Ramis said, although he's very optimistic it will happen with Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson returning as well. "Everyone says they'll do it,

Last Wednesday, Fangoria Entertainment along with our friends at Sony, Atari, and the Screening Services Group presented the World Premiere of the Ghostbusters Blu-ray on the eve of the film's 25th Anniversary.
While a couple of High School Graduations and the just-wrapped New York Weekend of Horrors got in the way, we've finally got a look at some exclusive photos and video from the event. Director Ivan Reitman (Meatballs, Stripes) introduced the big screen presentation of the film, along with a vibrant Q & A.

While cautioning that "all the casting and directing speculation is really just speculation,” Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman says he isn't repelled by the notion of directing the third movie in the series, which has become one of the more talked about sequels on the horizon.
In an interview with MTV, Reitman insists, “I’ve never ruled [directing it] out,” adding, “I certainly was responsible in every capacity for the first two movies so I certainly wouldn’t wander away from the third one — especially if it’s something we all think is worth doing.”
The "we all" means Reitman and the original cast of Bill Murray, Harold Ramis, and Dan Aykroyd, and the they in his "we all" are all committed to the project. So that's got to be worth something. The only thing is, according to both Ramis and Aykoryd, the old Ghostbusters will be window dressing in a film featuring a new cast.

Jake Kasdan, who most recently directed Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, has signed up to direct Bad Teacher, a story about Empire's French teacher the sort of things the staff get up to when the students aren't looking. The script follows a foul-mouthed seventh grade (Year Eight; Second Form if that's how you measure, grandad) teacher who is dumped by her sugar daddy. She sets her sites instead on a colleague's affections, but the school's goody two-shoes model teacher takes exception to this - and conflict ensues. The film was written by Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg, of The Office Us and recently the upcoming Year One (they're also working / have recently worked on the script for Ghostbusters III). Let's hope this manages to be as funny as the best episodes of Teachers - or, even better, as inappropriate as Bad Santa.

I've been a Jake Kasdan fan ever since I got to see The TV Set at the Austin Film Festival a few years back. Even if Walk Hard had more than a few missteps, it had its share of fun moments, and I think he's a talented comedic director that just needs to find the right projects. Hopefully, he's found one with the original screenplay penned by Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg, two writers on "The Office" who are also writing/producing Ghostbusters III (if the world doesn't end in 2012). According to The Hollywood Reporter, the script for Bad Teacher focuses on a "foul-mouthed" teacher who romantically pursues one of her colleagues. Kasdan has signed on to direct the project for Columbia - and it looks like this might be the right brand of intimate story that works best for his style. No word yet on casting since it's still early in the ball game. Any
