The coveted role of Lisbeth Salander has been set. Sony Pictures Entertainment has confirmed that the studio has tapped Claire Foy to portray the heroine in The Girl in the Spider's Web. The new installment of Sony Pictures' Millennium franchise, based on the worldwide literary phenomenon originated by Stieg Larsson and continued by David Lagercrantz, will commence production in January in Berlin and Stockholm, and the film will be released on October 19, 2018.
Today's confirmation culminates what has been one of this year's most eagerly anticipated casting announcements. After much speculation about who would be chosen to lead the franchise's next chapter, Foy is now preparing to take it on. The film will team Foy and director Fede Alvarez, who recently took the thriller Don't Breathe to over $150 million worldwide and revived the Evil Dead franchise. Alvarez has been hailed as an inventive and stylish new filmmaker. The Girl in the Spider's Web »
So I guess we're getting yet another The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo reboot, this time going straight to the sequel The Girl In The Spider's Web. It will reportedly be helmed by Don't Breathe and the Evil Dead remake director Fede Alvarez. However, the burning question remains: who is going to play the hot goth hacker Lisbeth Salander, the titular "The Girl" of the... Read More »

Not only is Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe director Fede Alvarez taking over for the continuing adventures of Lisbeth Salander, but he’s also bringing a brand new version of the character to the screen for his The Girl in the Spider’s Web. The search for the new Lisbeth Salander is over. “The Crown” breakout Claire Foy has officially been chosen to step into the role of Stieg Larsson iconic computer hacker for the upcoming “The Girl in the Spider’s Web” adaptation. The character has been played on the big screen by both Noomi Rapace and Rooney Mara in the past. Fede Alvarez, best known for horror films “Evil Dead” and “Don’t Breathe,” is directing.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled about Claire taking the reins of the iconic Lisbeth Salander,” Alvarez said in an official statement. “Claire is an incredible, rare talent who will inject a new and exciting life into Lisbeth. I can’t wait to bring this new story to a worldwide audience, with Claire Foy at its center.”

Under less forgiving circumstances, 2017 could have marked a disastrous year for Stephen King adaptations. As is? Andy Muschietti’s It atones for the slog-heavy sins of The Dark Tower, all but erasing Matthew McConaughey’s apron intimidation tactics from cinematic relevance – but approval wasn’t instantaneous. “Pennywise is too scary to lure children!” some cried upon early image releases. “Bill Skarsgård will be a worse clown than Will Poulter!” others claimed. True Detective favorite Cary Fukunaga placed Muschietti behind an 8-Ball the minute he vacated directing duties, but the whimsically sadistic Mama director crumbled under no circumstantial weight. Expectations surpassed, mainstream horror glory returned. What a splendid chill to start the Fall season with.

While it might seem that Warner Bros. and DC Films are greenlighting everything under the sun at the moment, it appears they do have some measure of consideration before flipping the switch. Long before the Dceu train started flying around the tracks, the studio was keen on making “Justice League Dark,” and had Guillermo Del Toro to make the movie. Eventually, he moved on and mini merry-go-round of the filmmakers kicked the tires including Fede Alvarez (“Evil Dead,” “Don’t Breathe”), Aharon Keshales and Navot Papushado (“Big Bad Wolves“), and Doug Liman who quickly signed on and just as quickly bailed.

The best way to watch “Chronically Metropolitan” is to think of it as a parody of a particularly pretentious brand of indie romance. Unfortunately, though, director Xavier Manrique and writer Nicholas Schutt (“Blood & Oil”) play it so solemnly straight for their feature debut that it seems unlikely they’re aiming for satire. Shiloh Fernandez (“Evil Dead”) is Fenton Dillane, a twentysomething author whose single short story in The New Yorker made such a massive impact on the world that, as he complains, he was “forced into exile.” Um. Castle Rock, a forthcoming Hulu series that will explore varying themes and worlds within beloved horror scribe Stephen King’s decades-spaning body of work, has announced its latest series regular: Bill Skarsgård -- who, coincidentally or not, is starring as Pennywise the clown in September’s reboot of King’s iconic novel, It.
In Castle Rock, Skarsgård, 26, will play a young man with an unusual legal problem. He will star alongside previously announced cast members Andre Holland (Moonlight), Sissy Spacek, Melanie Lynskey (Heavenly Creatures), and Jane Levy (Evil Dead). Spacek, of course, previously starred in the 1976 film adaptation of King’s beloved novel, Carrie. Skarsgård, who is the younger brother of actor Alexander Skarsgård (True Blood), previously starred in Netflix’s Hemlock Grove series.

While we wait for more news on the Don’t Breathe sequel that is apparently happening, we’ve got a fun little treat for those of you who dug last year’s film Evil Dead remake director Fede Alvarez was the man behind Don’t Breathe, and he just tweeted out a piece of retro-style poster art that he […] »

Last year’s Don’t Breathe (review) was not only a fantastic horror/thriller, it was a magnificent sophomore effort from Fede Alvarez, the man behind the, in my personal opinion, stellar 2013 Evil Dead continuation. On top of being a box office… Continue Reading →

The Crown over on Netflix has been a huge success both critically and with the fans – it has even picked up a slew of awards, including a Golden Globe earlier this year for actress Claire Foy, who plays the young Queen Elizabeth. While the series got a bit of a snub at this weekend’s BAFTA TV Awards in London, it looks like Foy may be make a jump to film for her next role.
Sony Pictures are planning an adaptation of the David Lagercrantz book of the same name which Don’t Breathe and Evil Dead helmer Fede Alvarez is attached to direct. Apparently Foy has an official offer but there may be some dreaded ‘Scheduling Conflicts’ to deal with. »

It seems Sony Pictures may have found their new Lisbeth Salander in The Crown star Claire Foy, despite reports from March that both Scarlet Johansson and Natalie Portman were up for the role. Claire Foy is reportedly in early talks, but she may not be set quite yet. Insiders claim that, while Claire Foy has in fact been offered the role, there are still scheduling issues that need to be worked out before she can sign on.
The Hollywood Reporter reveals that this coveted role went down to both Claire Foy and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story star Felicity Jones. It's possible that Felicity Jones may be offered the role if these scheduling conflicts can't be worked out, but that has yet to be confirmed. Claire Foy has also been fielding interest to star in Universal's biopic First Man, starring Ryan Gosling as American astronaut Neil Armstrong, although it »
It looks like Sony may have found its new Lisbeth Salander for The Girl in the Spider’s Web, with Variety reporting that The Crown star Claire Foy is the top choice to play the rogue hacker in the relaunched and rebooted second instalment of the Millennium movie series.
Sony has reportedly met with dozens of actresses for the part, and previous rumours had suggested that Scarlett Johansson and Natalie Portman were contenders to take over the role played by Rooney Mara in David Fincher’s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The character was also portrayed by Noomie Rapace in the Swedish films The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played with Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest.

Last year it was reported that Tr-Star were developing a sequel to the cult fantasy adventure Labyrinth, and now it looks like the studio is ready to move forward with the project.
According to THR, Evil Dead and Don’t Breathe director Fede Alvarez has signed on to helm the film, as well as co-writing the script with Jay Basu (the duo are also currently working together on The Girl in the Spider’s Web, the sequel to The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo).
The site reports that the new film will not be a remake or reboot, but a continuation of the original story. Jareth The Goblin King – played by the late David Bowie in the original – will not feature. »

Don’t Breathe and Evil Dead helmer Fede Alvarez is reportedly looking to reboot the classic Jim Henson’s 1986 movie Labyrinth for modern audiences. The new film will apparently not be a remake, but will take place in the same universe as the original film, which of course starred the late, great David Bowie.
The film is set up at Sony Pictures where Alvarez is actively working on new ‘Dragon Tattoo’ movie with The Girl in the Spider’s Web.
“’Labyrinth’ is one of the seminal movies from my childhood that made me fall in love with filmmaking,” said Alvarez. “I couldn’t be more thrilled to expand on Jim Henson’s mesmerizing universe, and take a new generation of moviegoers back into the Labyrinth.”
