"Operation: Steam Heat" opens with Gilligan's discovery of a hot water spring, but the Professor fears that this indicates volcanic activity on the island that could spell doom for the castaways. While Gilligan tries to send hot water all across the island, the Professor conducts a series of experiments to learn the nature of the heat source, deciding to create a bomb of nitro glycerin to destroy the volcano. Gilligan and Ginger accidentally fall into a cavern that will undoubtedly blow up when the volcano does. The climax just isn't as much fun as it should be, though it's a novelty to have Ginger in peril as well. There's a sameness about the danger that creeps into this episode, making it one of the weaker second season entries.
